Digital Caliper to CAD

I'm going to buy a digital caliper today, and was wondering if anyone had any tips for getting parts like flanges with organic curves measured and into cad?

Use a CMM (not like you have access to one), or just guess. If its a small piece, I've actually scanned stuff in before and imported them, then traced around the piece. Or just do a rough guestimate until it looks right. That's my preferred method.

I'll have to give a try tonight, they didn't have caliper i wanted at grainger yesterday, so i'm going to have to pic it up afterwork today :-/
