I noticed that some people when posting pics of their cars black out their licence plate numbers and some don't bother. I don't see the harm in posting it, but then again I don't see the harm in lots of things that are harmful. what do you guys think?

I've never understood why people do it. Its not like anyone would go searching for your vehicle to screw it up or anything.

thats what I was thinking , and it's not like you can't walk down the street and get a ton of LP#'s. My wife didn't think it was a good idea, but I was like whats the harm? thanks again

        RE: posting licence plate #

dont say that guys. there was a big problem with a some assholes in another car club. long story behind it to. basicly a club member brought a friend along to a meet, and this guy didnt talk about his car or car club. the guy took a bunch of pics of our cars saying he was gonna put them up on our forum. the next nite someone posts a link to a local VW club, with pics of our plates, stereos, and a side shot of the car. everyone just thought the guy was an ass and they were going to flame us for driving j-bodies. that night, 1 car got stuff ripped off from it, 3 others including my car had alarms set off, and mine went off 3 nights in a row. now these cars are in a 50km radius, its not like we all live in the same town and the guy folowed us home.

coincidence??? i think so, what are the odds of 4 cars in the same club being targeted in the same night???, pretty low if you ask me. now these cars are in a 50km radius, its not like we all live in the same town and the guy folowed us home either.

we eventualy saw the guy that took the pictures at the race track. lets just say we gave him a "talking to"

There was a case of that here. But even more crooked. Some guys who worked at a stereo shop were installing alarms and making copies of the remotes. Then, one night bam every body who had a stereo worth stealing had it stolen.

How do they find out where you live though? I mean you can't just go to the DMV/Secretary of State and ask for the info can you?

Ben, You cant go to the DMV but if your "really" good friends with the local popo they can run it as a "rountine check". I've done it before (NOT for bad purposes, was looking to buy an abandoned car). Wish I knew how to edit and attach pics cuz one day I am going to build a wicked insane car and have the license plate P1 GFU (Prototype1 GoFastUnit or PIG FU, I *LOVE* cops NOT).
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance
