alright, fighting the urge to drive my gas guzzlin' suv around so i'm going to get off my lazy butt and grab my torch and try to figure out the art of welding again. throw some hints or tips my way as well as maybe some simple (really simple, like me ) projects. btw i have an oxy-acetelyne setup. oh yeah, my handle likes to catch fire, right where the head screws on, anyone know a quick safe fix?

    RE: beginers welding projects

My first couple of projects were small, simple, useless things. Like I bought a length of 1/2" hollow square tubing, cut it up to make a small (4") H, then made another to match it, then I welded a length between the 2. It covered multiple types of weld angles. Then I started experimenting and make a head stand, which there are pictures around here somewhere... Just little things that will give a broad array of welds.

That's not actually refered to as welding. It's brazing.

But yeah, just make shapes, maybe a fixture for something you've wanted for a while.

You don't even have to make anything. Just get some scraps and weld them together, butt weld them, at 90 degree angles, etc.

yeah, i was gonna fix the flare up problem, then just do some cutting, and turn some metal into puddles. i don't have any rods right now, i get paid thursday so i'll be able to get some then. i go to ACE and grab some metal too.

grab a coat hanger, its mild steel. Then look through your junk in the trunk for some sheet metal doners.

i got some tubes to play with, i was going to rig up a set of tubular manifolds since i dont have the stuff to do headers. the tubes are wierd, presicion ground on the outside and have a step for the first 1" on the inside, i think they used to be rollers. maybe i'll make some shackles for my explorer and lift it a whopping 1"
