  • Engine Surge 2003 3.4L Grand Am

Does anyone know where I can get information about a solution to an engine surge problem. 2003 3.4L Grand Am GT I've had the car since new and have been to the dealer 3 times. I've been told to find another dealer, but before I go back, I need to know what the problem is because the dealer's mechanics do not...

    Thanks,
    Jim

What have they done so far? Is this a surge at idle or during driving? Anything like A/C affect the condition?

First they told me it was because the engine was new and something was turning on and off like the A/C, it had about 100 miles on it at the time. The second time they cleaned the injectors. The third time they reprogrammed the ECU. None of the above helped, and only because it happens very infrequently, I have not taken it right back after each fix.

After each visit to the dealership, they tend to try to make me believe that it is something "I" am doing. After driving and being my own mechanic for over 35 years, I have never had a problem like this and I am really hesitant to start swapping parts, on my own. GM should know what the problem is and fix it..

It sometimes surges when I am in stop and go traffic, sometimes as I am driving out my driveway, and sometimes when I am pulling into a parking spot. The A/C is usually off, the windshield defrost is off as well. The engine can be hot or cold. The engine RPM is usually fairly low, below 900 RPM. It surges enough to get your attention and drive with both feet.

I have a hard time believing that I have the only GM product that is doing this. I love the car, but I don't trust the GM dealarships.

      Thanks,
      Jim
