i was at an atra (auto transmission rebuilders association) transmission seminar today for work. the one speaker is actualy an ex gm hydramatic engineer.

anyways, what we were told is gm never uses the word "fire", ever. a car doesnt have a firewall, its called a bulkhead. so do you know what happens to an l67??? they dont catch fire, they have a Thermal Event

Yup. They've refered to this for years. Cavaliers had that Campaign (recall) a few years back for "Thermal Events" by having to put a relay in the starter circuit as if someone was a retard and kept holding the key to the start possition they could fry the ign wiring in the column and start a "thermal event"

On another side note to things like this, 2years ago I was at the Fort Wayne Truck plant getting a tour with the main engineer there (got a full 2 day tour of the place was awesome) We were in the bodyshop side of things where they were assembling the sheet metal on the cab, I said something refering to the "Firewall" He gasped.... Said.. Whooah, no we call that the "Front of Dash" Do not call it a firewall anymore. "Fire" he said is a bad word. LOL.

one of my roomates from college, automotive tech student, mentioned the bulkhead thing to me once, he claimed it was because "old ladys got scared when they heard the term 'firewall'"
