  • Front plates and your state laws

So who all IS required to have front plates?
Texas is, but i took mine off two weeks ago, and I've passed every cop in our town, and i KNOW they've all looked at my car. I've seen them glance over at me...but then again our entire town's whole PD knows me and my car

But just curious which states require plates?

RE: Front plates and your state laws

I know Kansas doesn't and I sure hope Arkansas doesn't. I don't think they do, as I haven't seen any recently (not that I've been paying attention). I also know Oklahoma doesn't require it.

Ohio does, but hopefully not for long. As does E Check, so goes the plate. Hiway Patrol lobbied against it. Public will win out. Missouri does, Arkansas doesn't.

well va definately does. they have laws for just about everything to make money. front plates, county stickers, tint laws no less than 55% which is almost invisible, stereo laws, ride height laws for both how low and how high, exhaust laws, no radar detectors, no lights(neon or strobe) laws that prevent tires from sticking out too far, no hood scoops above a certain height like 2 inches i think, no hydraulics, no nitrous and a law for just about any modification. only thing that isn't a law is smog sniffer tests for inspections. i am also surprised ther isn't a wing law. in some cases it might help

Thats the crappiest set of rules. Here we have laws (if you wana call it that) regarding all of the above but they are so slack. Even if you are breaking them you usually never have a problem.

Here we are required to have front plates. Never bothered me though.

i'm in ohio, i have the plate on my trans am, but its hidden behind the filler panel, so if they ask about it, i can just take the panel off. havent been asked for 5 years. and you know they look at that car.

Manitoba has the manditory front plate law.

The bird sports the plate mounted without the fucking ugly bracket, its kinda in a hard to see place but it "IS" mounted and the numbers are visible :P

lol wtf... we just passed a law this year saying we dont need them, i had it off 2 weeks before the law was passed and i got pulled over for it. I then told them i was headed to a pig farm and not to a party and therefore had no alcohol in my car. They proceeded to check resulting in me receiving a ticket.

CT state law as of January 2004. $75 fine. Pissed me off as I had to drill holes in 92 Prix. Both the Jeeps got em, but the Vette and FBird don't.

In NY you need them. After I got the front bumper cover replaced on my last car I kept the plate off and told the shop not to drill holes in the bumper. For about 6-7 months I never got a ticket. I got pulled over for other (stupid) things, and then sometimes the cop would notice the front plate wasn't on. But I just told him that I just got the front bumper replaced and haven't gotten the license plate bracket yet.
