  • Off roading, does anyone take their 660 there?

just wondering, i see everything on-road oriented, but does anyone beat their s-10/15 off road? i'm itching for a 4x4, and since the 660 is the only motor i know anything about i figure an s-10 type of truck is the way go.

What would make a good fun truck? torque i suppose is the first thing on the list. a manual tranny, did they have stick shift v6 s-10 4x4's? big tires, and some lift. but i think the s-10's have an independant front suspension, i'm not sure, throw me some ideas so i can get a list of ingredients together. i know i have a set of heddman headers around here for an s-10, i was going to mod them for my cavi.

There are (or at least have been) guys with Jeeps and Isuzu Troopers with 2.8s and 3.1s on here. I'd probably pick a Jeep over an S-10 for off-roading myself.

My Dad and I have taken our Jimmy 4x4 off on a "freshly" cut logging road!! It was a hella blast Even though the road was mostly sand, Dad never had to use 4wd except once, and that was for reverse!! hehe lotsa fun except for we managed to snag a tranny line or something cuz now I have to really keep an eye on the fluid level. The Jimmy is by no mean quick but it'll get ya there and back.
Now, my X-11, when I get another tranny in it and sort the suspension a little, will go "off road" but not in the sense your talking. This trip will involve luanching the car into the air, all 4 wheels "off road". Kinda dules of hazzard style but with most class.

Only first gens came with the 2.8L. They all came with a T5 is they were a manual. All 4x4's came standard with a 4.3L after 90 or something like that. So you might need to buy an older one. Try and get an 88 or later because they will have the best 2.8L in them.

The 4.3's became an option on the '89's and then standard in like 91 or 2 not sure but then in 93 they introduced the vortec 4.3
