  • V8 W-BODY!!! CHECK IT OUT!!!

i found this link while cruising the w-body forums at w-body.com. ASG 5.0 system that lets you install a 4.9 Caddilac engine into a first gen w-body car! I live in MI and the service can be performed for a mere $750 in IN. For the professional install and a used tranny+engine it would be roughly $2,500. To me this sounds almost too good to be true!! Has anyone else heard or seen anything about this?!

    The site is

there is one guy on mymonte.com that has a 1st gen lumina that had that done.

its not a bad setup, but is lacking in the power dept. he has also had some issues with the tranny if i remember right.

also, there is a lackluster aftermarket for that engine, so dont expect TO much from it.

but overall, its a cool setup

Yeah, its been around for quite some time. As stated, the engine itself is far from a powerhouse. I remember someone saying they saw one run at a track and it was barely getting into the 15s.

i dont get it, how is 200 hp and 300 #s of torque not a powerhouse? im sure there are some more mods to get it near 300 hp.....

Its a torque monster...which is not what I want in a FWD vehicle. It was 9k for their built up stage 2 motor....so for the money you aren't getting a whole lot power wise.

i figure with a used tranny and caddy engine, the kit to install it and the service for the to install is would run me about $4k. Wouldnt that be alot cheaper, funner and faster than building up a 3400? I like the idea of the 3400 and then put a turbo on it but it doesnt seem like it would be that fast....i havent seen many cars on this site break 100mph in the 1/4 mile.....but i see tons of turbo neons getting like 110mph in the 1/4....something else bugging me....when you get to like 300 or 400 HP im assuming the axle has to give out some time....how do you overcome that? jw.

Dunno what W-Body you have, but most book out at a lot less than 4k. Mine is nice, and it is only worth 2900. BTW, this is 60 degreeV6.com.

I wonder if you could shoehore one into a caddy cimmiron :P

Reality vs Dreams. I would love to have V8 in my Cutty, but, getting the V6 fast is a challenge. That is what I like! I got a Vette I am working on. Not a problem getting it fast. If you want to spend 4k on a 2k car, it's up to you. I would love to see it when it is done.

well see im just a kid and my parents got me this car. This summer im turning 18 and im working with my dad making buttloads of money. I obsessed with the WOW factor of making a sleeper and to me the most effective sleeper would be a V8 w-body. I just wanna know if anyone has done it, how much it would run me or any other websites about it cause i cant find anything about them. Do you think i could do the swap myself? does it bolt right up or something?

Well, the only thing that swap is good for is the wow factor. Then when the V6s are still kicking your ass on the street and track, the wow factor turns into "wow, I wasted a lot of money and time on this swap". Yes, its obviously been done because we have mentioned people that have or had it. No one here has done it though that im aware of because we aren't aluminum block with iron head enthusiasts.

He also totalled it. His opinions don't really hold any value to me either, but you can find him on chevycelebrityclubofamerica on yahoo I think. Its some insanely long club title anyway. Im sure he will tell you any motor is better than a 60V6, since he hates all these motors.

or you could get the z34 extended drag car front end and weld it up to yours and drop a 350 bored to a 383 or a 383. there was a nascar replica of DE's w/ a 350 bored to 383 and i do think it was a normal Z. $13,000 at the time.
