  • Fight your urdge to speed

Okay... we all have it... the urdge to go fast. and sometimes that urdge is hard to fight... in simple terms. i was coming back from snowboarding with my friend and i got one of these urdges. and i fulfilled that urdge... mistake. i have a radar detector... and it works well. and it did work ... for me to have enough time to get down from what ever speed i was at... to... 101.. my speedo only goes up to 85... and then it burys itslef... i hit the brakes hard for a few sec. after my first warning signal and got down to 65... got my foot off the brake while passing the TWO staties and then to realise i was screwed said "awww fuck" to myself. and stopped emidiatly after i saw him turn on his lights. which as no more than 200 yards from where he was sitting ( this is at night mind you)... he didnt say anything to me besides.. "you were going 101 in a 55" went back to his car... came back to my car and gave me two slips... "careless driving" and "101 in a 55". just a little story to help people think twice about going fast... on public roads. sorry guys.

Meh I have 3 quit crying. LOL just messin

I have 1 ticket in the states. You bitches are expensive. Cost me $500 Canadian for a 10mph violation. The cop was a bitch it was first thing in the morning and I was the only one on the raod (easy target I guess). If I was American there is no doubt in my mind I would have been let off. I saw 4 Canadians pulled over that day. We were all on our way to the drag races in Kent Washington. I think they were making a game of nailing Canadians.

Betterthanyou...Look at it this way..By the time the US converts that money...it'll add up to about $220. I am proud to say...no tickets since 1981! (Knock on wood)

Still a ticket here is like $114. I have only gotten that from much worse violations not 10MPH over.

You guys (well some states) are too expensive.

Just got one myself 2 weeks ago. 83 in a 55. Got me with a plane. Pulled onto the off ramp, and there sat two of PA's finest, just pointing at people to pull over. $181 and 5 points. Damn CAT fund!

I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since Jan 96, and that was for 7 over. She pulled me over because I was speeding and passing cars in the snow. Kinda BS if you ask me. I've only had 5 speeding tickets in my life (4 of which when I was driving my 73 Chevelle) and none were for more than 10 over.

Not to say that I haven't been lucky several times...

I said 1981, which is true, but, before that, I was a notorious street racer. I have lost my license a total of 4 times. Lost my first one 3 months after my 16th birthday. Worst one was in Missouri at 110, they didn't like that. Gave me a C&I, (Careless and Imprudent). SR22 was my friend for a long time. I finally learned that street racing is for suckers. (Another 60* bumper sticker idea) BTW, Daytona 500 has been rained out! :P (Just Kiddin')

Interesting thread. I just visited a friend of mine in Wisconsin (I'm in Illinois) and I never did less than 90 the whole way and never got caught. I always drive like that. I have some friends in Michigan that the computer says takes 4 hours and 3 minutes to get to that I have made in 2 hours 16 minutes Obviously, to make that kind of time, I never stopped and the speed limit may have been broken.
Yes I know that i'm a terrible person for doing that and i'm aware of it so please, before you old dudes start giving me that speech, I know.
Maybe you need a better radar detector? Which one are you using?
Sometimes a detector isn't the only protection. You should keep your eyes on how the traffic ahead of you is acting. If you see large clumps of cars together in a single line on the right that's a good sign of a cop ahead. Even if cops are using instant on radars or lasers there's likely a person ahead of you that has a detector and has detected them even though they arent using it now so watching traffic activity is a good idea.
Also, you want to invest in a good detector like the Escort 8500 or Valantine with the goofy arrows. They cost a lot more than the typical detector (Escort's $300 and Valantine is $400) but they work a whole lot better than the cheaper ones like Cobra and Whistler.

yeah i got screwed over in january, i was going to work and trying to change my clothes at the same time, so i wasnt watching for cops, and a cop hidden behind a wall radaring people got me for 10km/h over, wtf, 10 km/h thats nothing. anyways i went to court to fight it a few days ago and they laughed at me. so i had to pay the damn ticket, i hope it doesnt raise my insurance.

You got screwed? If you were speeding, and changing clothes while driving, you have no room to complain. Its a good thing you didn't run anybody over while you weren't paying attention...then you'd really be screwed.

I haven't had a serious speeding ticket in 10 years. I have had one for going 7 over in a 25 mph, the cop wasn't even clocking me he said he just followed me over becasue he wasn't sure there were to many cars it was only a minor ticket at about 30 bucks.

Granted I have had some serious fines in my life:
First was 134mph in a 55> 398 dollar ticket with automatic suspension and attempt of suicide I got the suspension and the suicide dissmissed in court and kept the lic if I was placed on SR22.
Second same year 89 in a 55> lic suspended 90 days
Third driving on an invalid lic, on proof of insurance dissmissed in court, Lic revoked 180 days
                            Lic reinstated
3-8th tickets were seat belt tickets
9-13th Minor under the influence of alcohol while operating a vehicle, minor in possesion of tabacoo, minor in possession of parifinailia, minor in possesion of a open container, seat belt ticket. All dropped in state court except the alcohol charges and the seat belt.
14th contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing a unlicenced minor drive a motor vehicel, lic revoked 30 days jail suspended 180 days parole 90 days suspended lic
15th habitual offender charges brought by the state of Iowa, House arrest for 210 days
Lic reinstated 1996 on SR22 with 10 grand down.

This all happened in less than one year. I was a troble maker. I moved toSF,SD in 1996 and drove illegally for 6 months because I could afford 500 dollar for 2 months insurance, pleaded with State of SD to reduce my insurance, I provided burden of finacial responcibility insurance dropped to 212.90 for 2 months.

Mid 1996 insurance lapsed by 1 day, invalidated lic, let go on a promise to repay to reinstate.
Late 1996 got into my first major accident, I got Careless driving, person I hit got her 1st DWI and she admitted that she was speeding at 55 in a 35. There is more, I sued the person chasing me for misconduct leaving the scene of an accident in which was a primary cause, pressed charges of attempt of assult verbal assult and throwing a knife at my car, he and his buddy was sentenced in Iowa for serious misconduct 3 counts, attempt of vehicular homicide, ordered to pay 100% of all expences on my behalf to the people I hit, My charges were dropped, the lady's was dropped, and she got 50k.

I have had a trobled past, but I learned the fundamentals of law, and how to drive a car well very well and I mean very well as I was cat chased alot and I all most never let the chaser in front of me ever since my first run in with a bunch of hot heads in Doon Iowa. The most profound chase was out of Sioux center Iowa, a whole chain of people were on me, and me in a little corsica with NOS and 5 friends, we hid on a gravel road ditch and watched them go by on the main road, I put in gear and got back on the road a few miles back behind the train punched it and as soon as I was on them flipped the nos and flew by them, they had to call up a camaro it was awesome they could not even pass me. Ahh memories....

Strange on most law books in the states lists speed limit as a suggested limit in most areas or zones above 55.
                            I am back

damn ive got chase stories too, i was almost killed a few times, but i dont feel like typing right now, so thats all im gona say about that. and when i was changing my clothes i was paying attention to the road, i just wasnt watching for cops like i usually do, he was parked behind a wall. i would never take my eyes off the road and endanger innocent people.
