  • Who would win this race?

I have a friend who wants to race me at the local track. He has a 96 Mustang V6 5 speed. I have a bone stock 93 Lumina Z34 auto with 140k. My car is in excellent condition his is in decent condition. I want to know if i can talk trash back at him. I just dont want to be embarassed. Thanks

that 5 speed is probably going to be your downfall...especially if you are bone stock.

what if i put one of your chips in? I'm probably going to get a pair of magnaflow mufflers for my birthday, non catback. I should also be getting an intake off of ebay.

Im not even sure what those V6 mustang 5 speeds run. I know 96 is slower than the newer ones. The chip would probably do more than mufflers though I have been told that the stock mufflers are a major restriction and putting higher flowing versions on makes a noticable difference. I think with a good cold air intake, better exhaust, and the chip, you would stand a much better chance. Hell, I could be wrong though and the 5 speeds aren't even 15s material.

My bone stock GTP (5spd) and my buddys bonestock Stealth R/T (auto) DESTROYED a 2002 V6 auto 'Stang. Its got like 160hp or something .. it was real sad to see we had car lengths on him . But this was from a 50MPH roll ..

Im pretty sure the newer ones are 190 or over 200 hp now. 96 was probably 160ish hp.

V6 stangs are a joke! My sister has a 2000 auto and it has no pull at all. I haven't driven it on the freeway, but from 0-50ish my GP(w/3100v6) pulls alot harder. the 5 speed might be a different animal. Ben is right the 96's are slower. Now I'm not speaking from experience, but with all the good things I've read about ben's chip, the dog bones and UDP,intake and mufflers, I'd think you'd kill him. Hell even i talk trash to the V6 mustangs, I don't see why you should'nt.

some kid at work has a 2000 v6 stang, i dunno the tranny, but its all he can do to get a 16.00 out of the 3.8v6, he pulls the airbox/filter off for dragging. i think they are about 190-200 hp like sappy said. but one of the cooks at work has a 96 i think with the v6 with udp and dual exhaust with a 5 speed and it beats the newer one. so if you can get better than i guess 15.7 or so you might have him. is his car stock?

Just for the record , i already burnt a 1996 Mustang with a V6 with my Pontac Sunbird 5 psd 3.1 V6 ... no big mods ( no cat , cat back exaust , WAI ) and the other was stock . And for the weight , 3077 lbs for a 96 mustang VS 3269 lbs for yuor z34 ( maybe a lil bit more , this is for a 3.1 one . )

But the Mustanf 3.8 is a non relaible engine with 145 hp , 215 lbs tq , 5 psd yes , but hell , they are just crap .

I would bet on your z34 , burn his ass

                      Engine + Tranny = Original

when my car ran, it would give them a run for there money. just a old 2.8 gen 1. whopping 120 hp. never beat any, and they pulled away after 4K. but i could hang in there, vainly. maybe the old 4 speed would kept up better than the isuzu did. as long as no-one got the jump on the downshift i could hold on for what my $800 dollar car was worth. go for it, you have like 100 mor hp than i did. maybe 500 more lbs.

yeah i raced my friends 5 speed v6 stang and im not going to say i won... it was a dead heat... and i mean it we were with each other all the way through... to this day he thinks i was just dicking with him and that i had more peddle to go... i will never told him i had the peddle planted more than possible. but in my opinion i think you would give him a run for him money... dont know if you would win though.

This will be an easy kill. Someone had a freind who who brought a 96 5spd V6 Vert with pullies, exhuast, and intake....he started out running 17's and got it down to a 16.7. When my GT was an auto and stock running 16.1-16.3 it had no problem with V6 Mustangs. For the record the 94-98 cars made 140-150hp and were the slowest, and are HIGH 16/low 17 sec cars with autos, 16.3-5 with a 5spd.

The 99+ have 190hp and with an auto are quicker(low 16's), and the 5spd run low to mid 15's. The 05s now have a 4.0 or 4.2 and run high 14/low 15's with a 5spd.
