  • Rock vs Rap.

What is your preference? Rock or Rap? And why? I am old time hard core rock. 1st album was "Paranoid". Last one is "Audioslave". And 10 billion bands in-between.

    RE: Rock vs Rap.

Rock. Why? I'm not really sure. Some rap is okay, but the majority of it I don't like. I feel like majority of rap is just talking about getting laid, doing drugs, drinking, pimping, etc. Not that there isn't any bad rock songs out there, but it just seems more common in rap.

Rock(hardcore) lately one of my favs is the new slipknot. i don't mind listening to rap on the radio but i wouldn't get an album. for me i tire of the rap songs too quickly. i think every1 else does too b/c other than 1 or 2 snoop/dre songs you don't hear any rap songs from a year ago on the radio but i find myself still jamming to metallica and slayer from over 20 yeas ago every so often.

Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Beatles, George Harrison, Steely Dan, Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones.. God I could go on and on.

As for newer: Slipknot (The Subliminal Verses is awesome, and I love SIC from their first album, definitely a good driving/pissed off song) Son Volt rules, Weezer, KoRn, Soundgarden, Frank Black, My Chemical Romance, hell... that list goes on and on too.

I like a couple of the songs off "The Chronic"... most rap I like is a song here or there. Like I like maybe 3 or 4 songs from Outkast, I like one song by Blackstreet (I'll give you three guesses which one, from 1996), I like some of the stuff from Mikelabz (guy from the old boards, had a black CS Sedan). Most rap I can't stand, however.

          RE: Rock vs Rap.

I listen to a kind of music called hardcore (hXc). Idon't know if anyone has heard of it, but it's basically metal riffs with punk rythem and screaming. It's really fun to listen too... and dance to. If you've never been to a hardcore show, it's an experience watching everyone dance.

Also it has meaning. I listen to a lot of a varient of hXc called edgeXcore. I'm straight-edge (no drugs / smoking / drinking) and that music is basically hardcore with lyrics about being edge. It's actually very positive music, you just can't understand the lyrics without reading them. But it's all mostly very positive music.

One kind of rap I will listen too only because he seems to speak his mind and fuck the rest of the world is Eminem. No other rap exists to me. I listen to AC/DC Van Halen Ozzy Mettalica(fucking Lars) Motley Crue Deep Purple Guns N Roses Ronnie Dio(right now) Kiss Rush Sammy Hagar ZZ Top Queen. And a whole lot more pretty regularly. Now southern rock, welllll....... thats a whole nother ball of wax.

coal chamber, white zombie, pantera, slayer, cannibal corpse, hatebreed(be4 they got big) and a bunch of others.
i wouldn't call it dancing but it is definately an experience. No drinking???? that kind of like racing without alcohol. to each their own. still can't argue your taste.

both, but i mostly listen to country, and classic rock. Some rap is good, but the hardcore shit like "i shot 2 niggas last night and smoked a pound of weed and robbed a liquor store and got shot 80 times" is just gay who gives a fuck. I have a few friends who think they are black and grew up in black areas, but jesus why?

                    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

DOHC: Those are more metal bands than hardcore, go see Throwdown, you'll see kids hardcore dancing. Moshing is scary I got messed up the last time I was in a pit. Comes from being 5'10" 150

I like some rap too, the really funny catchy kind, like that "Drop It Like It's Hot" song... oh man Snoop sounds funny in it. And I like a few Eminem songs because they're pretty funny. There is no "shooting niggas" or "smoking dope" in his stuff. There's more like "raping my sister" and "cappin fags" or whatever.

to me, from what i have heard over the last few years, is sucking. the new slipknot is ok, closet case shredding is about the only highlight for me, but it got old quickly. the crap like lamb of god blows, i should just drop C my guitar and scream like i'm getting alley raped. most nu/new metal is pretty much similar, at least from new bands. rap just doeant appeal to me, all i have heard is the weed smoking bling screwing in mah 44" chromed out escalade shooting homies crap.

You would like my friends band from Sac. They are called Killing the Dream. Really good band and local. They have a website with a sample song. www.killingthedream.com.

I have heard them before... shit I think I've seen them before, name sounds familiar... you know if they ever played with a band called Love, Hope, and Fear? My friend is the singer / guitarist for them... if I saw your friend's band it was with them.
