    RE: SHO Taurus VS Z34

    Well the general perception/stereotype is:

5speed SHO>5speedZ34>AutoZ34?>AutoSHO (i can't remember which is better between the autos)

But stock vs stock at sea level the 5 speed Z34 SHOULD beat the 5 speed SHO by ~.1 seconds. This is through both specs, as well as track experiance. Im pretty sure you can get more mileage out of the 3.4 than the 3.0/3.2 as well.

But, looks wise... the SHO doesn't even compare with the Z34. And i mean, Conan obrien drives a SHO, and look at how he turned out. irish freak. (im kidding, conan is my hero... find the segment about his car, you will not stop laughing)
FACT: The engine in SHO's is made by Yamaha... wtf. pos import
FACT: the SHO says SHO under the hood on the hood, thats awesome
FACT: Ford was less lazy than GM and the SHO has a few more cool goodies
FACT: the Z34 looks better, no thats not an opinion
FALSE: SHO is cooler to say then Z34
FALSE: Its not cooler to say you drive a lumina, or a taurus... neither are cool.

as far as the 5-speeds go, i'd put money on the SHO.

just my opinion, but i would take an SHO ANYDAY over a DOHC W-body. they look better, and the Yamaha V6 is just freaking awesome.

don't get me wrong, i like W-bodies and the DOHC 3.4, but if i had a choice i'd pick the SHO hands down.

I agree that the Z34 looks a hell of a lot better and i personally think that it would win the race but i do love the SHO interior, plus it has cupholders. I would still rather have the Z34 over it though. I just wish my Z was a 5 speed.

Ive been in a 5 speed SHO. Pretty quick but the top end isn't as much as the 3.4 DOHC. It would be damn close (he also had a few mods, lightened flywheel being the only one that really sticks in my mind). Honestly, this is no longer about the type of vehicle, but more so the condition of it. Its hard to find either in great running condition, though the SHO has a solid aftermarket and enthusiast base.

If you want to compare brand new conditions, the SHO was much nicer for around town because of the 2 stage setup (low end). Id rather have an auto SHO and a 5 speed LQ1 (not a Z34, i hate the seats and interior too much). The SHO handles and brakes so much better than a stock W body, plus the 4 doors don't look bad like the 4 door w bodies (to me).

I gotta have a 4-dr, and sappy's right. The Taurus was designed as a 4-dr, so the look of SHO is well proportioned and cohiesive for that reason. The early 4-dr w-bodies look like a total chop job. I imagine this because the first w-body models (GP, CS, Regal) were designed as, and debuted as coupes only. The sedans always looked like poorly executed after-thoughts until they got full redesigns.

And again sappy is right about the condition being the biggest factor. The car that's been taken care of will win. Tires, clutch, plugs, belts, etc. All big factors for older cars.

what year SHO cause the ones with the 32valve 3.8l v8 makes 235hp little more than the lumina dont know if they came stick but that has to have some advantage over the lumina. not that i like the sho or anything i think ford sucks but it might spank the lumina depends on how you drive it and how much either weighs in.

The v8s are actually slower till they hit higher speeds. The V6 is the preferred engine. Yamaha motor...so its a nice engine in a ford.

I used to have a Yamaha YZ750 and it kicked ass, more all out balls than the honda CBR, but I had an exhaust....
I used to really like the SHO, but now that I have a 95 Monte Z34, I kinda think the Sho is lame. When the rebuild is done I will definately be looking for some SHOs to race 'at our track'.
I already know that I can take some models of the acura integra and mitsu eclipes.
I want to be able to handle the 4.6 mustangs.

When I went to the track most recently, when i ran my 15.22, there was a kid there with a SHO, 5-speed V6, the newer body style, liek early 90s. I want to say it was a 92, but I honestly don't remember. Anyways, he had a chip, exahust, CAI, and cams. I rode in it around the track, and once down, and I was unimpressed. The low end felt the same as the Z34s, but less bouncy, much more smooth. The mid range was better than the 3.4, from about 3-4k, but at 4, both picked up, but my Z pulled a lot harder from then on. Also his felt like it didn't have much on the far top side, past 6000. I'm sure my Z34 had a much better top end, even tho he had cams

He ended up running a 15.6x with a 2.30 60'. By comparison, I ran a 15.22 on a 2.38 60'. I also had the headers, which I'm sure gave me a big advantage. Back when I was stock I raced one, the same early 90s V6 5-speed, and he beat me, but my front bumper was right at his rear. But this was before the chip, so the car really fell off after 5500.

If it was a newer body style, with the oval headlights, it was at least a 96 with the V8, and as stated above, slower than the V6 off the line. Is there a car made that you haven't riden in, Aaron?

until I see a 3.4 DOHC do this:

I would say the SHO would have the upper hand.

Though, this is really ALL based on the driver in a 5 speed VS 5 Speed race. If it was auto Vs 5 speed, you're probably going to see tail lights about 1/8 down the road. They have VERY HIGH top end.

This is what my finacee's SHO has done STOCK. Notice how at 4000 RPM it just has a sudden kick in the ass. Secondary intake valves open up then and it's just takes off. Saying a Twin Dual cam has more top end has got to be the funniest thing I have ever heard. A 13.1 @ 114 is nothing BUT Top end. I've seen a truck run a 12.1 with the same trap!

My car has never had a single thing done and still currently has nothing done to it, because I'm just a bum and I'd like to say it keeps up if not beats my modded Auto Monte Carlo. So Aaron, knowing how great your credabliliy is here, I'm not even going to pay attention to your post, because a "CAMMED" SHO would be a low to mid 14 EASY. And if that guy knew what he was getting (which I'm sure any SHO enthusist would know), exhaust does nothing without a Y pipe. CAI? Who made it? Midrange? better? Ok...I thought the best part on my DOHC IS midrange so that statement is false.

I'm not knocking my engine. I like it and think there is potental out there. And sure there are only a few turboed DOHC's, but are there numbers and dynos? No. Any track numbers worth mentioning? No. So until then, I'd actually watch my ass with a SHO, becuase you never know what he or she could have under the hood. A Lumina? I already know....

                            As far as looking better?

I don't think anyone has seen one worth looking at. But I sure think that's one I'd like to own.

                            P.S. I Love SHO's :P
