I'd take a Taurus SHO over a Z34 anyday. The fact that it doesnt have those pesky rear brakes is reason enough

Ok...I thought the best part on my DOHC IS midrange so that statement is false.
I am just going off of what I saw/felt first hand. Also, you have no idea how the high end of my car compares with that of the SHO. And that run was at 6500 feet altitude for both of us. Taking this and others I've raced into account, it is about a 13.8 for me, and a 14.2-3 for him. This is very reasonable. My car has great midrange, but not the midrange I quoted. From 3000-4500, his car would own me. My car comes in strong at 4500, well 4, but only in the lower 2 gears. His just felt like it picked up faster, but the high end was not as exagerated as mine. With my car, there is more of a night and day difference between low and high end, his was much more linear.

And about those videos, cool no doubt, but common. It is modified, they have an aftermarket. I see Mustangs run flat 9s all day long, that doesn't mean that a Z28 can't beat them. It jsut takes time money and knowledge.

I can't admire the SHO and call it fast because the annoying ass sound coming out of the mufflers is distracting me.
(HAHA i was typing this with the movie in the background, and my friend asked me why i was watching a movie about cutting down trees)
I dont see why we're comparing modded SHO's vs Modded z34's... we all know there is no aftermarket for a Z34 and 10 times as much for a SHO.

if both are modded to the max im thinkin the Z would win...
And im not sure on these, so someone can set me straight... but doesn't the Z34 have milder cams than the SHO???

Z34 = greater displacement should have more potential
SHO already has intake runners, Z34 has the shitty plenum...

Second movie is better than the first, but im still not impressed. If i dumped 80,000 into my car im pretty sure it'd have in the 500hp range too.

For the record, I'd rather have an SHO, (interior is miles above a Z34's) but the question is, which would win in a race.

sho motor is forged internals. Sure, you can do forged cranks and better rods on our motor but still....the SHO motor is pretty sweet in stock form. Im not sure what the stock cam specs are anymore on the SHO, but I know they are keyed, and most likely are better cam specs than our stockers.

Greater displacement means nothing though. Examples? The Cadillac 4.1V8. The Pontiac 4.9V8. The Ford 4.2V8. Sure they have more displacement, but they are all complete and utter shit.

Well the thing a SHO has is not necessarily a better engine...well..ehh..

But they have a lot of die hard fans willing to pay for that aftermarket. Most of the stuff made isn't by any famous brand name on Jeg or Summit. Diehard fans just pooled together some money about purchased things.

              Or hell be creative!

Blown at a project costing $400 and change.

What I think about this age old question is just that it's all based on the driver, but if ALL WENT well on stock vs. strock, I would have to put my money on the SHO.

Lol about those engine Jorcutdanless. I've never heard of any of them. Also another thing about displacement. Look at the new Monte V8. 303 HP with a 5.3 (don't know torque though...probably a lot), while a 4.6 NorthStar (Vin 9) is 300HP with 300lb-ft already. God bless DOHC. Though a swap would probably be like $2500 give or take.

P.S. Yeah. The exhuast is the ONLY ONLY ONLY THING I don't like on the SHO. There isn't a set up in the world that sounds good on it. So went I do mod, I'm just keeping the stock mufflers. Like I said before. The Y pipe is the only thing worth modding when it comes to exhaust. (cats on Y pipe as well...how conveinent)

Seeing those SHO videos makes me wish i had more money just to experiment with... Just imagine if our engines had the aftermarket of a Ford 302... Im bettin the numbers would be insane.
