  • WTF beer slushie

dude i came home today and went to get a beer from the 12 pack of Mackeson Triple Stout that i have and when i got that bitch inside i opened it and woosh a bunch of slush came rushing out the top
cleaned it up and poured the rest into a glass
    beer slushie
anyway i thought i would bring the rest inside and while doing so i saw that one of them in the process of freezing burst the top off and made a mess
i was under the impression that beer didnt freeze but then again it was -2 the other day lol

actually anything will freeze provided you have a cold enough temperature
but yes alcohol has a low freezing point

Most alcohol based chemicals freeze at -117 celsius degrees, the alcohol in water acts like a anti-freeze, but given that most beers are 5-6% the effect alcohol has on water is minimal as it would only drop freezing point of water to about -10 to -20 degrees celsius.

        -117C>-179.4F

        drop antifreeze effect
        -10 to -20 C > 14F to -4F

Where hard alcohols come into play so does the proof factor, the higher the proof the lower the freezing point.

Weird thing is that 100 (50%) proof alcohol freeze at -58.5C -73.3F really close to -50C or half of -179.4F pure freezing point.
