Yep, bullshit. They were basically an SE with the GTP body mouldings. But it was only a 3100, 155HP I do believe.

They weren't GTP specific moldings, and it's 160hp.

'94 to '95 and some later 3100s were rated at 155 HP.

They could get either motor actually. Its just a badge, means nothing. You will get guys saying their special edition is a GTP cause it says GTP package on their window sticker. Either way, not 240 hp.

There was a 1996 GP GTP Special Edition for sale around here, every option in the book, and bright red. It also had the 3.4L. It looked sweet, but they wanted like 10 grand for it

im with Ben on this one. my '96 is a Special Edition GTP. it is a GTP, but the Special Edition gives you "Special Edition" on the doors and below the trunk lid. plus a pinstripe along both sides of the car. whatever color your interior was, the vinyl on the outside reflected that. the "special edition" crap overrides any other stock badging whether it be "Grand Prix SE" or the "GTP" plaque.

                      by the way...'96...3.4 DOHC: 215 HP/225 TQ

I'm pretty sure in 96-97 it was still 215tq, or was it 225 ft lbs?

ya even with the 3.4 DOC I do believe the most it would be was 215 HP, I dont remember it being anymore than that, and I dont think too many special editions even got the 3.4, come to think of it, there really isnt anything "special" about the special editions... so ya Id call BS too...

They did get the pinstripe and the "special edition" writing, but I wouldn't call them anything special.

you know...i read places its 215...but then i read my '96 Grand Prix brochure and it says 225. other GM resources say 225 also for '96-97.
