Torque wrench adaptor extension.

Hey, guys do you know where I could get a torque wrench extension bar. It would have a 1/2" square drive on one side and some type of 6-12 point box end on the other side. It is used for increasing torque or getting into tight spots. What I really need is a 1/2" square drive to a 5/8" box end. Plus it has to handle 300ft/lbs. Please help.

Wow aside from making one I wouldn't know where to begin looking.

Get your 5/8 box end wrench and weld any socket with a half drive on the open end

crows feet.. They are open ended wrenchs that you can put on extentions and ratchets.. usualy a 3/8" drive though...

Neat ideas but neither of those will handle 300 foot pounds. Unless you know somebody with a 3/8 torque wrench.

A box end wrench will handle 300LBS. Well a good forged one anyway. Also how far does this thing need to reach. And what kind of 5/8" fastener needs 300LBS of torque.

5/8" head= 7/16" bolt, which I don't think will handle 300 foot pounds. Ask the snap-on man if he has what you need.

No way will a 7/16 bolt handle 300 ft. lbs. You will either break, strip, or stretch the hell out of it. Nearest bolt that handles that, is 5/8 UNF. Enlighten us as to what you are trying to do. This is obviously not on a passenger vehicle.

OK, let me throw one at you guys. It is a 3/4" NC alloy grade 15 socket head bolt. The head of the bolt takes a 5/8" allen head socket. This preticular bolt actually requires closer to 510 ft/lbs torque. But In this preticular situation, 293 ft/lbs. Specificaly to induce 100000 PSI force within the threads. A 5/8" box end CR-V wrench will not do it, I already tried. Good thing it was a Craftsman, lifetime warranty baby. The space is VERY limited only 3 inches. I cannot fit a 3/4" torque wrench with a socket in there. So, I have to use some kind of extension.

I think I will be doing some welding on this one. This really pisses me off because I have seen pictures and specific instructions on the use of these torque wrench adaptors. But I can't find a single manufacturer of such a beast. Or anybody who sells them. I think somebody bought the patent and trashed it, because it is the easiest way to get more range from your torque wrench.

There is one on eBay but it has 12mm and 14mm ends, not the 5/8" you need. But it is only $15! Unlike the $188 for the above "kit". Do a search for "torque wrench adapters" and see what you can find.

It may not be exactly the one you need, but call your freindly Snap-On dealer and get exactly what you need.

I see what you are trying to do now. Brad's second post seems to be the closest to what you need, but the 1/2 drive won't handle 300 ft. lbs. Plus it's a little pricey.. Here is a scratchy drawing that should work. Might need to bump up a few notches, use the formula in Brad's first post. Make sure you use impact quality. Sorry for the crappy drawing, but you get the idea. Box end should be industrial grade 6 point. Shorter the better.
