  • Things to accomplish in life

    1. Finish High School. check
    2. Get a job. check
    3. Get Married check
    4. Get a house check
    5. Have a cradle bolt drop out from under your car while driving. check

Driving back home from some errands, hear what sounds like a wrench being dropped under my car onto the road "CLING clank clang..." Look in rearview, see nothing.

Pull a u-ey, go back to where I heard the noise and get out of the car. Gee, a cradle bolt with the retaining washer laying in the road? Limp the car home, find it had come from the rear drivers side.. and the passenger rear one is so loose its about to fall out.

Could have been a VERY VERY bad day for me today
BUT! that explains why the alignment showed as off caster so now its fixed
    I modify stuff

sounds like today is national shit fall off your car day

I was driving around a wide turn today, heard a pop/thump noise (much like the sound of running over a squirrel) and then the most god-awful machine gun popping noise coming from the passenger front wheel. I get home to find that the front passengerside endlink decided to break off the control arm, somehow bend itself up over the axle, all while breaking the clamping end of the outer CV boot off. Just the job I want to do in 25* weather.

A subframe retainer broke in my TGP, and it scared the shit out of me. I knew something was wrong right away so I pulled into Walmart. The retainer/washer rusted away around the bolt and the washer just broke away from the bolt. Needless to say it has all new subframe bushings, retainers, and bolts now.

Ive had to tighten up my subframe bolts twice now, but they have held solid now for a few months. This was after putting new bushings, retainers, and bolts in though so I hope its solid. Glad you didnt have the death metal blasting like you usually do chris, that could have really sucked! Definetly not the weather to be working on axles and end links either.

damn, and I thought I had it rough that my 2.2L Subaru Boxer engine needs head gaskets....

I've seen quite a few older Wbodies drop both subframe bolts... Quite the site. Worst part is when both go, You loose steering as the rack intermediate shaft pulls apart LOL! thats gotta be a scary situation.

Hmm, sadly I've only accomplished 3 of those 5 you listed, Got the Graduation, got the Job, Bought the House ... half way to the Married part... still no cradle bolt though.

hahaha, i only accomplished one...finished high school. Job...what job? Guess I made my own job though now:P Certainly no wife or house at the moment.

There was a recall on those bolts in the rust belt, so im not surprised you have seen it. It would definetly suck ass to lose steering!

                  2. Not there yet.
                  3. Nowhere near it.
                  4. Nope.
                  5. Nope, but I did have a wheel bearing seize up, melt, then weld itself to the spindle.

Good thing it didn't come completely apart in the road. Was this the firey arrow or the geepee?

it backed out completely and fell out. I re-used it, wasnt damaged at all. This was on the GP.

Good point Jon.. I think I'l check the ones on the Fiero too since theyve been taken out and replaced.

I did lose all brake pressure coming into an intersection though, its a good thing I know how to drift, flicked the car sideways and slid slideways into the intersection scrubbing off speed.
