  • 2004 GTO vs. 2005 Mustang

I had this post over on gmforums (which is now shut down) but this became a popular topic for conversation.

    REDESIGNED... 2004 GTO

    REDESIGNED... 2005 Mustang

I'm a GM man at heart.. but I fell in love with the new 'stang when I saw pics of it. Based on the LS platform.. its no longer a POS like the old ones. Don't know much about the engines yet, but at the moment its sounds like there will be a V8 and a supercharged V8.

The GTO is.. a re-badged Austrailian car. But its still a hell of a car.
    LS1 350HP (pontiac.com)

I'd like this to be a non-biased post towards GM or Ford.

if not all info is accurate.. well whatever. Thats what this thread is for :P

I have more pics of the Mustang but I woun't hog space for now..

I really like the GTO. That mustang looks funny in the front, but thats the only part I would change in its design. Id take the GTO though over the mustang. I will NEVER own a mustang OR a camaro. Of course, id rather have an older GTO...but technology does have its advantages

Yes indeed.. the 67 GTO I believe is one of my favorite cars (from the movie Bandits as well as crappy XXX). I do also really like the old Mustang fastbacks from the similar years. Both had some awsome cars.

Yes, a GM Australian car. It's a RWD, GM, V8 muscle car (those who argue IRS = no muscle car can take your Fred Flintstone ass and go live in the stone age). I don't give a shit where it comes from. It's still GM. Holden has been GM since what, the 50s? Same shit different country.

Modern RWD V8 GM muscle car with good quality (at least in Australia) and nice proportions (no, I don't mean styling. I do, in fact, mean what it says. Dimensions).

I'll never buy a Ford of my own free will. It's too late and I'm going to bed right now, maybe I'll type it all tomorrow, but Ford just hides too much shit, too much dangerous shit. Fords scare the living shit out of me, I don't feel safe in Fords. Ford lies and endangers people. I'll not be caught in a fuckin Ford. At least new ones, dunno about older ones. Older being 1970 and less.

GTO for me. If I had the money, I'd get a 2004 GTO and then supercharge it.

Ever seen pictures of a 1967-1969 Monaro? Remind you of anything? Yeah. So they had rebadged North American GM, so we get a rebadged Australian GM. Works for me. All in the family. Been done before, being done again.

I'd like this to be an unbiased poll, so lets show 2 huge pictures of one of the choices... and I choose GTO. That new stang will fail miserably, just like the t-bird and all the other projects ford's tried lately, marauder anyone?

Wow I'm kinda surprised by the results so far. Looks like only hardcore GM fans in here. Over at w-body.com its about 1/3rd for the Ford.

I really don't like the styling on the new GTO (my opinion, sorry guys). And I don't like it for two reasons.

                    1. It takes too many visual ques from other cars. The front looks like a late 90's, early 00's Grand Prix, and the rear looks like a Jag. I've never been a fan of the Jag rear end, and I've always felt all the Pontiacs (of those years at least) looked way too similar. They need an edgier (litterally) design, perhaps take some ques from the original GTO.

                    2. It just doesn't look as sporty as a GTO. Those wheels look too small for the car, the side 3/4 view sort of reminds me of the Tiburon.

Honestly, I'd just stay with my Z34 . Once I get some 18's, rear black-outs, clear corners, and a hella high gloss black finish, I'll be able to stop next to a GTO and say "Hi." without quivering. =)

However... are those pics actually pictures of the car? Or artists' renditions? Because it will probably look better in a real photo.

Wheels too SMALL on the GTO? Good grief! They're huge!

It does look like a Tiburon from that one side pic. Its like a Grand Prix that had a threesome with a BMW and a Tiburon.. this is their child.

No offence guys but I simply don't like the car.

It does look better in real life... It's about the size of a CTS... I like the way it looks (then again, i like the way the Holden looks). The only thing a GTO really has to be is a small(er) car with a big High-HP engine that goes fast! Thats the whole GTO concept...

i LOVE the Monaro heaps better. the styling of the monaro is killer. (for those who didnt know i learnt it the hard way in oz, its pronounced MON-R-O, not like camaro which we would be like saying it this way MON-air-o)

the HSV GTS and GTO are killer.. seen them in the showrooms, sat in them and they're the tits mate! just wicked.

LS6 mmm... i should post some pics of my Holden Dealership adventures.

i agree the pontiac GTO is a bit of a letdown style wise... its even got the same Series 1 Monaro Rims... just pontiac center caps.
they could have done more with the car. compared to the styling the monaro has its seriously a let down.

you should have seen the responces to the Pont GTO from the Oz car mags (i collected a heap of them) when they unvieled the GTO... they were like "Look what the Yanks have done to our Prized Monaro" "its hideous, ruins the Monaro"
so dont feel like you are the only ones who are let down. the aussies make fun of the american cars. how plain and bland they are. they cant fathom the reasoning for all the FWD stuff. its funny.

I know the wheels are huge (aren't they 18's?) But they look small on that car.
