Is it just me, or are all makes and models of cars getting fuglier as the years go by? I personally wouldn't want either in my driveway... Both are nice platforms with ugly skins. Just one man's opinion...
Okay now, that's enough of that.

I'd like to differ. Lets see.. I'll use the Mustang as an example.

In 1964 the Mustang was introduced.. a good looking car. It continued the same basic looks until the later 60s, when the fastback was introduced. It changed from having a tiny V8 and being a "girls" car to having massive big blocks with loads of power. Not only was it quite fast, but very agressive looking with hood scoops, decals, and racing stripes. IMO the best Mustangs ever. The Boss 429.. one badass car.
In the early 70s the fastbacks started to suck due to emissions standards CRAP.
In 1974 the 'Mustang II' was introduced and really sucked.
In 1979 a new body design was introduced, which also sucked. The same basic look continued until the mid 90s, when it recieved a major facelift (but still used the same platform). It was finally a better looking car, and power figures had increased as well. The Mustang "Bullit" I think is a cool looking car, but I don't know much about it.

FFW to 2005, we got a new Mustang on the LS platform, same as the T-bird which is also a great car. The 05 Mustang IS retro.. to me it looks spectacular, to others they might hate it. Same deal with the GTO (some love it, some don't).

Anyways, thats my story which hopefully is fairly accurate.

Thoes Mustang pics are in accurate. The looks will be toned down when it goes on sale. Ford is lame but it will have more power than the LS1. But they needed a supercharger to do it. So if you slap a supercharger on a LS1 Well then you have it beat. I like all of Holdens cars and it is a crying shame we cannot buy them. Wouldn't you want a modern day El Camino in your driveway (HSV)? Shit I sure would.

We don't know for sure yet what engines they are putting in the Mustang yet.. its all still top secret. I heard a rumor about the 5.4?L engine used in the trucks.. who knows. Might not even have a supercharger (they should save those for SVT models). The regular GT should be all motor.

it is suposed to be a Supercharged 5.4L making 500hp and 500torque.

In the Magazines I bought (Road&Track and one other one) it said the concept had a supercharged 4.6L, 390HP 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic that was in the convertible.
I'm looking at the mag right now.. hey on the next page is the Pontiac C6

As hard as it is for me to do this, more styling went into the new Mustang. Granted it will be toned down, but I think it's overall style will remain. Where as the GTO looks too much like the Monaro, and to me that is unoriginal, and no time was really put into making this car all it could be. I think in part it is this way because they needed to get somethin to fill the void left by the F-bodies. Powertrain wise I feel GM has the better powerplant. Ford's modular motor's have had so many problems I would stay the hell away from them. So despite, the styling not exactly where I would like it GTO for me.

                        1. It takes too many visual ques from other cars. The front looks like a late 90's, early 00's Grand Prix, and the rear looks like a Jag. I've never been a fan of the Jag rear end, and I've always felt all the Pontiacs (of those years at least) looked way too similar. They need an edgier (litterally) design, perhaps take some ques from the original GTO.

                        2. It just doesn't look as sporty as a GTO. Those wheels look too small for the car, the side 3/4 view sort of reminds me of the Tiburon.

However... are those pics actually pictures of the car? Or artists' renditions? Because it will probably look better in a real photo.
I totally agree. Though I'm not a fan of the mustang fast back, I was looking on the net, and found pics of the Mustang convertible. I like the convert. better than the GTO. But, I'm only going on the pics that I have seen, I think I would need to drive both cars before I make a final descision. Also, the GTO pics look more like renders than photos, and the front end seems a little off... Just going on body style, I like the Mustang better.

Those GTO pics from the Pontac website don't show a whole lot. Closeup of the front, interior shot, underneigth the car.. but no good side exterior shots. (Maybe they are keeping it secret until they get to the dealerhip.. AS IF the GTO has any special looks to hide anyways!...
