ok, I know this is suposed to be a joke, but I fail to see th humour in it.

Maybe it's because there are more Iron dukes built the way you describe than you'd think.

            Care to explain this "joke"?

well basically the most humorous part is building a performance iron duke vs something else
the iron duke was one of the worst engines GM ever produced they had more problems than i can think of right now the fact of building an engine for performance that has TBI
and the year i said i got the motor from was the worst year as well
there were recalls on the heads and block cracking

There are some Fiero guys building up the Duke. The most successful seems to be a hybrid engine using the later model parts, like the 3.0 GM/Mercruiser crankshaft from the marine engines. TBI engines can be modded for big power as well.

Sure it will. If A guy can run at WOT for 10 mins with no coolant and then have hte fire department come to the house because of all the weird smoke coming from the tail pipe which causes them to take battery. Then the next day a new battery is dropped in and the Duke fires up and still with no nasty sounds I would say it is good.

That's how I want to feel. The guy said he'd trust it for 20 miles, but not 2,000. I think, if it runs for 20, it'll run for 2000.

Car is an 88 Fiero. Been sitting for the past 2 years. Runs shabby, rough. Will get up to speed, but the guys 2.5 fierohas more power. New water/fuel pump, and a new fan. Needs oil change and new intake gaskets. So it should make it, but I doubt it will. Thank God for cell phones, hopefully all goes well. We drive it back on Dec 26.
