    Thought I would share this. The whole site follows.....This is just the BEST part! What does "boost" mean?
    When a supercharger spins, the turbine forces a large mass of air into a confined space (the space within the pipes leading from the supercharger to the throttle body). The volume of the air remains constant but the mass increases, and as a result the pressure of the air within that confined space increases. Boost is commonly measured in psi, or pounds of pressure per square inch. Most superchargers on V6 F-Bodies generate 6 psi to 12 psi. Generally speaking, 6 psi is considered a "safe" amount of boost for the L36, while 9 psi is usually regarded as the highest a stock L36 can handle. The L67 engine (the 3800 Series II found in the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP) comes stock with an Eaton supercharger that generates 8 psi. L67 owners typically increase their boost up to 12 psi or so, but higher numbers are possible (but dangerous). On cars with modified engines specifically designed to handle large amounts of boost, 15 psi, 18 psi, or numbers as high as 32 psi are not unheard of. The more boost you are running, the more power your engine will produce.

    I dont think the boost itself has anything to do with it because they burn up without even running! Its like a fiero...they just do it.

        Fieros probably burn because of the exhaust being crammed back there.

                Yes, asbestos dust prevents fires from airborne gasoline vapor. But seriously, the original post was a funny, but the website provides useful information and links to companies if you are considering super charge or turbo charge.

                        No, actually fires were mainly restricted to the first year Fiero which only had the iron duke (puke) 4 cyl engine. A few mistakes on Gms part (big suprise) left the duke open for failure and throwing a rod. Once that happens and you have hot oil spilling on the cat you have a fire. Since the body panels are plastic, the fire was always a huge site to see so it gained a lot of attention which is why there's still so much crap about it even now. Actually very few ever caught fire at all and, like I said, it was mainly restriced to the first year. There's only been a small ammount that ever really caught fire and GM did a massive recall to all Fieros to make sure it wouldn't happen again. Unfortunately uninformed people still spout off the same stupid remarks about the fire when it's really undeserved.
                        Two major reasons for the iron duke fires were; GM cut corners and used faulty rods on some of the first year cars and they also recomended the wrong oil filter for that year as well. The filter they recomended had no antidrainback valve so you had dry starts all the time. The duke had very little oil capacity anyway so you can see why this would be a real mistake.
