  • Please forgive me, and be gentle:oops:

Well, I've done the unforgivable......I bought a 3800 powered car!
But we couldn't turn down a deal. We were originally just looking for a cheap 4 banger for a winter beater, but a guy I used to work with had a 1996 Olds LSS for sale. We got the thing for $2000 CDN. Runs good, and has nothing noticable that it needs for safety. Leather interior, dual climate control, steering wheel controls for the stereo and heater, etc, etc.

    Let the beatings begin!!

As long as you don't let the 60V6s behind, and don't mod the 3800, I see no problems. Remember, I myself have a 90V6, albiet a 4.3L though.

nothing wrong with that. The Eighty Eight is like one of those cars you just ignore what's powering the car. Just like most older Caddy's

That's why we got it. Just as a reliable second car.
Just sad because I've only owned 60s since 1996, including 2 Cavaliers, a Transport and the Venture we bought earlier this year.
And the Z24 will be around for many more years if I have my way with it.

Yeah, for that deal I would grab it too. Its not like you are dropping your current project to modify the LSS. Its a winter car so that should be pretty damn solid for the application.

Thank god it doesn't have the supercharger. Without it, you and your family are much safer says the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

                lol

That is a really good deal, and works great as a winter beater I bet.

                  Yeah, it should be good.
It's got traction control too, but I don't know how well those systems work. I've only experienced traction control on a GTP which has an "active" traction control system I'm told. Apparently that limits power transfer to the wheels, where the other system applies the brakes to limit spinning.
I don't know if that makes sense since I really don't care about traction control, but if it helps the wife drive in the winter, it's good with me.

LSS with 3800 SC huh? My dad had 97 LS with 3800 NA engine. I used to drive that all the time. Compared to my mom's 94 Buick LeSabre with older 3800, it was very fast and torquey.

We didn't get the supercharged version unfortunately, though as a second car, we don't need it either.
When I asked the guy if it was supercharged, he didn't know!!! I told him if he didn't know, then it's not!!

Hmm, interesting. I am almost sure for 97 model year, LSS came with 3800 SC standard......

Could be for 1997, but ours is a 1996 model.

Well at least you were honest Franz... otherwise had you not said anything to us about your purchase of the bastard engine and we had found out without you saying anything to us.... well, i think we would have had to come to your house and burn you at the stake :P LOL. j/k.

Nice cars. should be a good addition to the fleet for the family. Just watch those Valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, and Rear cover gaskets.. they're a non stop oil leak fest going on on those 3800's.
