I know it sounds lame and doomsday-ish. but lets not be stupid. it will someday come to this. We WILL one day start to have less and less oil production.. the result can and will be scary.

You suck Colin.... I downloaded the free version of the book, so now I'm gonna have to find time to read 184 pages. After reading the table of contents, I figured I'd share the following part of the book (mainly because I have brought up this point before):

Is the US going to invade Canada?

Quite possibly, but not for a while. The US imports 87 percent of its natural gas from Canada, who is
required by NAFTA to sell 60 percent of its natural gas to the US. When Canada begins to experience the energy crisis, they may seek to change the terms of that law. The US is unlikely to allow them to do so.

Most Americans are shocked to find out the US imports a greater amount of oil from Canada than from Saudi Arabia. As of 2002, the US imports 1.8 million barrels per day from Saudi Arabia, and 2.1 million barrels per day from Canada.

The reason Cheney and Rumsfeld have stated the ?war on terror? will last 40 years is because by 2040-2050, the bulk of the world?s recoverable oil will be in Canada. By the year 2050, over half of the world?s oil supply will come from so-called ?non-conventional? oil. Most of this oil is located in Canada, with some located in Venezuela. Consequently, whoever controls Canada in 2050 will control the world, at least what?s left of it.

The initial signs of a potential US-Canadian conflict are already appearing. In August 2003, the US initially blamed the New York blackout on Canada. In July 2004, Petroleum News reported low-level tensions between Canada and the United States over ownership of possible offshore oil and gas
deposits in the Beaufort Sea have intensified from ?simmer to boil.? Less than one month later, the New York Times reported that Canada has initiated large-scale military operations in the previously isolated and forgotten Arctic regions. The reason? To reinforce its claim to oil and gas reserves the US and EU have both claimed as their own.

If a war with Canada seems impossible, consider the following for a bit of historical perspective: at the turn of the 20th century, Germany was considered one of the most socially advanced, benevolent, and civilized nations in the world. Thirty years later, it had degenerated into one of the most barbaric states in history. The German people, who were starving during the 1920s, embraced the barbarism because they had been promised it would put food on their tables. The human mind, regardless of whether it resides in a German body in 1933 or an American body in 2023, can get pretty warped
when food gets scarce. Think about it this way: if your family was starving, and you saw that
your neighbor had food, would you consider taking it by force? Most people would. Remember that, as explained in Part II, oil production = food production. If Americans can?t get food (oil), we?re going to take it from whoever has it.

Sadly Canada doesnt really have much of a Military... any Canadian on here will agree its kinda a sad state of affairs right now. too many years of lack of funding has left us with not a hell of a lot of good equipment.

US/Canadian relations have been going not so well for a while.. the Ban on Canadian Beef, we still cant sell our Livestock to the US. my uncles are hurting because of this. The Tarrifs and bullshit over our Lumber industry selling products to the US, the Bullshit over Wheat and other grains being sold in the US. Canada NOT joining the coalition of the idiots didnt help either -however i do applaud that particular choise for us not joining the Iraq war.

IF its not going to be the oil that the US invades canada for. it Will be our Natural Resourses such as Water. the worlds Fresh water supply is starting to get very sparce and will get worse in years to come.

There is actually quite a bit of oil in venezuela, it is just that the government there is in shambles. I had to do a report on Venezuela; it was a while ago, but I think I remember that it has the largest supply of oil outside of the middle east or in the western hemisphere or something like that.

I wouldn't sluff of technology like that person did in his article. With the rate it is advancing it may suprise you. What if a battery comes out that will power a car for 2 weeks before a charge. What if solar cells come out that convert sunlight into energy like mad. What if we tap into geo thermal energy to make electrical and heating power for all our houses?

If you take a look at Iceland they get almost all their energy for their entire country from Geo Thermal energy.

Who knows?? Obviously this author is preparing for the worst. But maybe it wont be so bad. Or maybe it will be better than it is now.

I could see if there was a sudden shortage and technology never advanced for the next 40 years, for something that extreme to happen. Doubtful.

Yea exactally. The projections seem to be based on current oil consumption growth trends but factoring in only current technology.

If a reliable electric car was to corner the market and we no longer needed fuel to power them then how much would that drop the need for oil? Then what if container ships and cruise ships were to adapt a fusion power cell (if they invent it soon) and could go for 60 years without fuel. Then if the US finally started getting rid of all the old coal and gas power plants and switched to wind, geo thermal, solar and Fusion (if they invent it in time) to lessen the need for oil. Then how would that change the way things are?

You cannot predict the future so dont condjure up facts to claim you think you know what is going to happen. This seems to be just another Y2k scare. Soon everyone will scramble and something will have to be done to fix it.

I am hoping for Hydrogen to become widely used. I'd be VERY happy to see that. Electric is kind of weary because it takes a lot of oil to produce electricity (the way it is now) so that may not necessarily help. Though I haven't really researched it.

How many people saw that car that ran on hydrogen peroxide and compressed air?
It was a straight line drag car and SUPPOSEDLY did 350mph, it was hydrogen peroxide being shot by compressed air onto a special metal screen which created a chemical reaction. In the end, the two products of this reaction were water and air. Slightly more healthy than carbon monoxide. I believe its 1/4 time was 8 seconds?? im not sure, if i ever find the link ill show you... Im not making this up, but maybe the site did, has anyone else heard about this?

There were movies of it too actually, the entire 1/4 mile was filled with white steam/smoke or w/e it was. pretty cool.
