  • Bad cv joint?? wtf?? Need help fast!!

Here is the problem, there is agrinding noise from the front of the car when driving it. It gets louder when you go faster and quiets down when you apply the brakes. I have already changed the rotors, pads, wheel bearing hubs.

I jacked up the car with both front wheels in the air, put it into drive and the right wheel was spinning normally (10 mph) but the left wheel (where I suspect the problem) was not spinning till I gave her some gas then I heard the grinding sound and felt it too.

So is this a cv joint, something like teeth/gears chewed up and slipping or is it in the tranny?

I never heard of this, how bout you?

Its an open diff, so it sounds to me like your differential is going bad. I am not really 100% on that since I have never witnessed that happen.

Im confused when you say differential. This is front wheel drive, is the diff in the tranny for this?

Yup, its on the passenger side of the trans, so that its more equal length than other FWD trans that just use an extra long passenger side axle.

This sound is on the driver side for sure.

Oh ok, i dunno what right and left are, just driver side and passenger side. Hopefully its just the axle then. That isn't too hard to swap out.

um that's the same thing that happened to my car after the altenator was replaced. the mechanic forgot to tighten the bolt that holds the halfshaft in place.

um i think it's the one that holds the drive shaft to the wheel hub
