if you let them have some other type of union that would have the same tax benefits that'd be considdered "sepperate but equal" which is politically incorrect - so they can't get those benefits either. I don't see what they need to be "married" if they are prefectly happy together in a monogamous relationship - if they think getting married will make them any less likely to cheat, they'd better wake up.
I personally don't like the idea of Gay Marriage and I've done a bunch of research to back up why we shouldn't accept it.
