PlatinumZ34, what are you smoking? There never was a "Hemi" Lil' Red Express. The Lil' Red Express was available with a 318 or a 360. The 360 4 barrel version was the fastest domestic production vehicle of its year hands down. There also wasn't a 454 Hemi, there was a 331, a 354, a 392, a 426 nd the current 353 inch hemi, I believe there was also a Red Ram Hemi back in the early 50's, around 270 ci. Ge the facts down man...I hate to rant, but comparing a 427CJ Cougar to a small block powered truck is a bit of a no brainer, yeah, the non emmision hampered, factory tuned Big Block is going to win. But the truck can haul the car home when the engine blows. To keep it on topic, I like my Grand Am's 3.4 better than anything the Mopar crowd is driving (except maybe that Hemi, lol...) mopowr79

Chevy made a Hemi. So what is everyone hung up on Dodges Hemi for?

I guess it is all marketing.

Probably, cause it was the only Dodge engine that did/does any impressive numbers when you consider reliability.. LOL

Well the Chevy Hemi never made it to the street. It was strictly racing.

Hemi is not really an exclusive design, Dodge and Chrysler started it in the U.S. in the 50's, but I am sure there were other makers using the design before then. A small list of carmakers who have used hemi's could include Ford, Mopar, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and on and on. Toyota's 2TC and 3TC motors had a remarkable similarity to Mopars V8's and Toyota even had a limo motor that was basically a pair of 2TC's on a common crank in a V8 configuration. If you want to split hairs, the new Hemi isn't a true hemi at all, but more of a semi hemi design with a figure 8 shaped combustion chamber. Mopar also had splayed valves before most other makers, with the Polysphere motors in the late 50's and early 60's (the 318 wide blocks). Personally I like my new 3.4 V6, 3rd generation, splayed valves, aluminum heads, roller rockers, but still in need of a bit more juice. mopowr79

the 3.4TDC is a pentatonic Hemi. There, Chevy's hemi.
              sorry i can't spell pentatonic

And the new "hemi's" aren't anything but a marketting scheme.

your statement is a freaking JOKE!!! what are you talking about, it's unrebuildable unless you are a hack? come on now. do you own a 2.0L/2.4L?

i'd be willing to bet my 'old' 228,000+ mile 2.2L Turbo Dodge would put your car to shame, if not give you a damn good run for your money....more than likely i'd flat out run away from you. an SRT-4....jeez...

ok, i've come to the conclusion that there is a huge misunderstanding here about Dodge 4-cylinder engines. the early 2.2L/2.5L engines are awesome, the newer DOHC 2.0L/2.4L are probably even better. as far as automatic transmissions go, i don't really know. however, the 5-speed manuals in the Turbo Dodges can & will take a serious beating and give 110% right back, ecspecially the A555 & A568, which i wouldn't doubt could take on more than a Getrag 284 yet still be rebuildable, not to mention a Quaife (albeit expensive) is readily available. don't get me wrong, i'm not talking shit about W-bodies or the 660, i'm just seeing alot of people talking shit about things they seem to know nothng about, whereas IMO giving credit would be more appropriate.

i read that neons were cheaper to produce than anythng else in there class. has to be a reason why they suck.

i have to admit the new str one looks pretty cool. but i hear that dohc motor start to leak in mysterous places. the cylinders are cast, and the mains/girdle is bolted to that. more parts = more to fail. i've read good things up until they start to leak everywhere.

id like the ion. doesnt look as hot, and i dont like the weird dash. looks more of a sleeper from the factory than the dodge.

Quad 4's use hemispherical combustion chambers....so there is plenty of GM hemi's out there

Call a local tranny shop. Ask them how many Dodge Caravan Automatic transmissions they have in stock. Dodge 4 bangers (I am not sure on the breed of 4 cyl's) pop head gaskeys as much as Chevy 2.3L's. True some might be good. But the ones in the eary neons and the caravans were crap.

However there are always exceptions to the rule. I met a guy at the track that had a Dodge Caravan turbo running mid 13's. He of course had an upgraded motor and turbo. But it was sweet seeing him take down some cocky racers
