You still not listening. You thinking the worng way. You are comparing an auto with shitty gears to a 5 speed with nice close ratios. If said car was running a 2004R with real nice ratios and not the stupid high gap ones that a 4T60 uses then you will lose.

Also the obvious would be pullies, headers, better exhaust and im sure theres plenty of room for porting and if someone were to take the challenge a bigger TB.
Internals wise there could be cam regrinds that allow you to use vvt to take advatange of either higer or lower RPM ranges more effectivly. Then of course with the beefy bottom end (steel crank, forged everything) you could put a good CSC or turbo application on it and tune it to do quite a bit I imagine.

Well alot has changed over time and an automatic tranny will woop the piss out of even the best gear slamer any day.
hence a CVT tranny (with basically infinite gear ratios between the highest and lowest) will rev right to your peak RPM power and stay there all the way down the track.
A 6 speed with proper gearing wont be as perfect as a CVT, but it will tend to stay in the power range pretty damn well
a 4 speed has 33% less gears to work with in staying in the proper range.
Now alot of the time the instant shifting of the computer will make up for the lack of gears, but not when you are going through the twisties...with a 6 speed you always have a good gear to drop down to.
Soo, unless its a 6 speed auto with manual shift buttons (like ford has) than a manual tends to be better overall

Well a simple form of VVT. Really just varriable cam timing. It can only advance or retard the cam. It cannot adjust timing and overlap like the 3.6L VVT1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper
