    I spy..

    Things I didnt know:
Valve reliefs in the pistons (for the agressive cam profiling due to the cam phaser)
    Valve spring Collar?
Higher resolution Crank trigger, looks like it replaces the one for the crank pulley
Some kind of oil distribution block bolted over the lifter valley
Oil filter adapter swings the oil filter towards the oil pan, and they have molded an indentation into it for this reason.
    Coated piston skirts
Could it be? Floating wrist pins???
    Redesigned Pump resevior

    Things we already knew:
    True Dual Stage intake
    Piston Oilers
Redesigned Connecting Rods which use bolts instead of studs
    The obvious cam phaser

    What do YOU spy?
    I modify stuff

The block bolted over the lifter valley is probably the DOD hardware.

Didn't the 3500 get this same trigger?

The Quick Sync 58X ignition allows the ECM to instantly discern the exact location of each piston when the engine is started. This enables the ECM to immediately select optimum fuel, spark and intake parameters to reduce startup emissions. The Quick Sync ignition also provides for more-refined engine starting.
            There ya go...

                Yup.

Is that just the picture or has GM done away with the "D" shaped Exhaust port. looks too round to me.

They have gone with an oil cooler Hose setup much like the S/T trucks with the cooler lines bolting up to the Filter adapter housing.

The exhaust ports are D shaped still, and look to be larger than the 3400. Same goes for the intake ports. I guess we need a cylinder head to verify everything though. If I put some pop up ads on here and charged for a members area we could afford these luxuries (till everyone stopped coming here that is). hahaha, i can dream (of killing the site).

I spy an engine with a future. I spy GM finally spending real money on this engine family!! The 20 year test is finally done! I also spy a revised torsion damper,Sea Shell upper intake, a classic Saginaw P/S pump, and an outside guide ossillation damper opposed to the older inside style. Also LSX Style rockers. 39FUNDRED!!!! 35FUNDRED!!!! Maybe the 3400 in the Equinox has the older style manifolds still? I hear they have the newer heads....

Why pushrod, that's what I don't understand about GM.

Pretty obvious as to why. Easy to and or lack of maintenace, cheaper to manny, higher fuel economy, less friction, lighter, and smaller comes to mind. Take the LSX/Vortec for example.

1 word torque = 245 ft lbs of it at 2800 RPM to be excat. Try to get that out of an overhead cam.

Coupled with VVT and 2 stage intake and now you have a torquey lowend engine that doesnt fall flat on its face in the topend.

I will be keeping my eyes open for someone to wreck a G6 GTP to see if I can possibly get my hands on one of these for a somewhat reasonable price.

Course we still gotta wait till next spring

Well I do not have dyno sheets to prove it. But Pocket Rocket played around with the cam timing on the 3.4L, and got it to where it had the low end of s small block chevy. But he said it wouldn't rev past 5-5.5k.
