  • New car, or truck i guess... 56k Beware!

I just bought a 1949 International KB-1 for 10 bucks (Canadian! and its only 2 hours away, picking it up next weekend). And its in pretty decent condition, as far as restoring goes. Its currently got the original flat head 6 and 4 on the floor tranny. I have big plans for this beast, its gettin a 302 or 350 with a 5 speed. Oh, and its a shortbox .
All the windows are good except for the passenger windshield, its missing the wiper on drivers side, and the front end needs a little bit of work, but other than that its pretty much all there. Lets just say i got sick of the stuffed Z34 engine bay, this engine bay has enough room to work in as it is, but the front end actually unbolts for easy engine access, it was one of their selling features... haha i can't wait to toss a couple thousand dollars down the toilet for this thing.

    Look at the horns HAHA.

you should try and get that motor running. did you ever see that episode of trucks were he got the 40 dodge pickup running??? basicly looked the same way. the truck was towed into his shop, and it drove out. you could probly get some decent coin for that motor if it ran. (to the right guy, its worth a fortune)

K my bad everyone its a 1947 with the crank out windshield. But anyways, my uncle is selling/giving me a 350 drivetrain for it, tranny, rear end, engine, plus steering column, front end out of a Mustang II (power steering, disk brakes), new guage cluster and dash, and custom bumper. Can't wait, it'll be here next weekend, i'll see if i cant turn that motor over, if not i'll get it rebuilt and machined and see if i can sell it for some roll.

Post any info you get on this here. My buddy bought a "1947 1 ton flat bed " or so he is told. Been setting since 1956 or 57. We trailered it home. I cant member the specifics but it seems like "titles" were not issued till 1950 something? He/we/me are looking to restore this buggar. Yeah its got the fold out winshield.

I'll be sure to keep a photo journal of the progress. more like a weekly/monthly one tho, barely have enough time to work on it let alone record everything:P.

Bud36light i found this http://www.oldihc.org/, its got a pretty decent amount of info, more than i've found anywhere else. The stock engine's pushin 50hp, so like 32 at the wheels, with the new engine it'll be around 300 at the wheels haha...

That site pre-mentioned is mainly for restoring them, from what i've seen so far... this trucks going to be as custom as possible, while still staying in touch with its roots. Like, maybe i'll chop the top, but then i'll keep the box wood or something. My uncle's done a few trucks, '54, '49, '51, he's got all the parts for me and hopefully alot of help, what i learn from him i'll pass on to you.

First bit of uncle news: He tells me that a chassis off of a late-model S10 is nearly the right size for this truck. Im probably not gonna use an S10 chassis tho, but maybe someone else would like to do that.

That's going to be one cool ride! What do you think of putting a flat bed on that? Since it's going to be a custom job, some nice cherry or even walnut would look killer!

How about a SOHC or DOHC straight six instead of the 302 or 305? That would not only unique, but way fuckin' cool. Drop me a PM ... I'll set ya up.

cool. old cars are fun, and they sure don't make em like they used to. sittin in a field for that long would have turned a new car to a pile of dirt and plastic by now, but you should be decent to go, maybe some patching in the floors and lower areas.

350/th350 = best combo ever. cheap parts, stuff for them is everywhere, and you can build very respectable numbers on the cheap side of the price scale. stall converters are under $100, trans parts are cheap, engine rebuild kits are under $300, lots of head options, you can buy an edelbrock intake new for under $100.

don't bother rebuilding to sell the old motor. if it wont spin over, list on egay for $10 no reserve, no shipping. if it doesnt sell, you're out 35 cents and you scrap it.

i have a couple street rod projects:
