Yes, but what you described is more of a straight electric car, isnt it?


the idea is that a hybrid recaptures lost energy from the motor use.

It recharges like the alternator does in a regular car while the motor is running.

But what about when you coast? you're not really using the engine, its just idling and burning gas.

In a hybrid, not only does it stop the engine, but it uses the turning wheels to recharge the battery. you're using electrical means to capture the waste generated in the motor in the first place.

Yes a hybrid does have systems to recapture energy. It will do alot of braking work and uses that energy to add some charge to the batteries. At a stop both engine are shut off and no energy is used.

I still think they are highly over rated. Most dont get the milage they claim and the up front cost and complexity is not worth it. Not to mention the weigh and space the on board systems take up. Plus none offered today have impresive power figures. Just get a Geo Metro you could drive it for 50 years and still be cheeper than a Hybrid.

yes, but the point isnt to just be cheaper when driving one of those. . .wether from vehicle or fuel costs.

Like I said, I'm all for people buying em. it just speeds the R&D along until its to a point where I want to buy it, just like Plasma TVs. ;p

Whether for mileage or pollution control, the majority will not give up their gasoline until it runs out. Which will not be in our lifetime. At least not mine. Even so, technology is far from making a user friendly Hybrid. Also the same for Hydrogenated vehicles. If I were to choose one, the Hydrogen would win. (It's an internal combustion thing.) Isn't that why we are all here? On the flip side....Electric motors can be Boosted so to speak, by rewinds and gearing. My ex-boss does it to his Hot Rod golfcart. As for me though, I am not ready to have someone ask me "What ya got in that thing?" And I have to answer, "400 amp, triple woung G.E.,with tweaked brushes and a 1.5" output shaft." Besides, there are no cool stickers for High Performance Hybrids. For now, Hybrids are merely a novelty. Kinda like O'Douls...You just don't buy it by the case....

I don't know why some of you are saying you?re against highbred technology? Or advancing on performance and getting 40MPG, 29MPG from our engines. I'm personally for every advancement that they make; especially Hydrogen fuel celled vehicles! But I don?t think there using it in an internal combustion engine. It?s being used in a fuel cell, which converts some sort of matter/energy into electricity! I think

Just like vehicles 20 years ago, it took them this long to get performance and gas mileage together along with emission! And I'm sure one day we'll be saying that stuff about hydrogen fuel celled vehicles! I hope to see it in my lifetime! But there are some concept vehicles that Honda designed has 400Hp and could get 60 MPG. I'm not a Honda Man but dame I'd love to drive that around town!

I am not against them. I just will never own one. And I doubt if the majority of Americans will either. Not for at least 100 years. The way I see it, the more Hybrid drivers there are, the more gas is available to....me.
