  • uh oh, i think i'm a "tuner" now

yesterday i built and installed a custom 2.25" mandrel bent cat-back on my buddy's hyundai accent. complete with no muffler. we stuck to a small 3" polished stainless tip and kept it in the stock location so it wouldnt stick out like a ricer. the stock pipe was about 1.5" and was killing his top end in the autocross. it is his "i'm playing with my daily driver because i cant afford to build the twin turbo stroker small block for my camaro yet" car and he hates the riced up cars as much as anyone.

normally i wouldnt work on a foreign car but he's a really good friend and he helped me hook up the rest of the stuff on the 3400 and we built an A/C delete pulley and bracket on friday. the sad part is that little car has so much more room for exhaust than my lumina.

Nah, if you were a tuner, you just would've stuck a bunch of stickers and fake carbon fiber body parts on it. What you did was to actually try and help the performance of the car, which is a big no-no if your a tuner!

if i get hit i want there to be a chance i survive. in an accent i think if anything bigger than an accent hits you, there's a 99% chance you are dead on impact.

I agree. I still remember sitting at a dead stop in the 91 and having a Saturn hit my car that was doing about 30mph. After jumping down on the ground (the rear of my car was on the top of her hood) I walked away. It did tweak the rear some and the trunk doesn't close right, but no glass broke, the doors still shut the same, and it still drives fine.

BTW, I don't consider my self a tuner after helping a friend rebuild his 2.0 Eclipse engine, and turbo it I did enjoy beating it at the drag strip because his exhaust manifold gasket was trash and he couldn't build much boost, lol.

I don't feel so bad about helping my neighbor with his Geo exhaust either. He gives me all the catfish I can eat, and I beat him light to light by at least 50 feet! His sound is louder though!
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

"run what ya brung" as they say down here.

even if you felt bad you worked on a Hyundai, feel good that you had the tools and ability to produce your own mandrel bended exhaust.

my bender is actually effed up right now, i took a camaro exhaust system, cut all the bends and straights out of it, and used the original as a pattern and welded them together. good experience for when i do mine, as well as my custom CAI that i need to do.

My brother hit an Elantra with a 22 ft long Sierra 3500 going maybe 40 or so... Wasn't that bad, and Elantras aren't much larger than an Accent. The rear was pretty torn up though, but nobody was hurt.
