  • 3.1L MPFI v6 Need various component specs!

    Hey all,

I am planning to pull the engine from my 1988 Beretta GT and beef this thing up.

I found the following kit for the cam, gears, chain, springs:
Free Shipping - COMP Cams High Energy Cam and Lifter Kits with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Camshaft Kits at Summit Racing.

I need to know what the specs are for me to buy forged connecting rods.
I found this, but I dont know if the legnth or anything is right:
Free Shipping - Scat Pro Sport H-Beam Connecting Rods with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Connecting Rods at Summit Racing.

I also need the piston heads

I am hoping to keep the stock compression ratio.
I am also planing to install an M90 Supercharger, and I'm considering changing the stock pulley size on it to increase boost.

This engine is mating to a centerforce racing clutch and 5 SPD Getrag282 trans.
Going in a 1988 chevy beretta.

    EDIT:
I made an error, please read my later post for info.

planning to do this to my 96 3100 SFI engine, not my older engine.

Why are you not doing a 3400 swap?

      X2!

Don't waste your money beefing up a Gen 2 unless you are stuck in some weird racing class.

3400 or 3500 is the way to go, much better cam choices and they'll make way more power for the money.

A tree branch in a 2.8 would be cheaper and is environmentally friendly.

Or if you have a 1990 Beretta GT Indy and want to keep it stock looking I'll be doing a gen 2 build soon on my car soon.

So you will be putting in a tree limb for that "bump stick" performance?!

              i made a mistake.

i want to beef up my 3100 SFI engine. i have more than one of these cars and i was thinking of the older one when i made the post.

i wont do a 3400/3500 swap, this is a brand new engine i bought a few years ago, no point in wasting it.

its a show car i have been modifying and making it look great, its spectacular, only drawback is a stock engine.
i want to keep it stock, and beef it up, and i want to add the M90 to it.

It is a Z26 but it has my modifications, looks really nice, like a compact sports car should.

i also plan on keeping a quieter exhaust, not planning on making this loud. i know its restrictive, but i dont want this car to be a noise bucket.

my 88 3.1 MPFI has a larger muffler after an ECM upgrade, and its a noise bucket.

              EDIT:
I bought the engine before i considered modifications and swapping.

No need for forged rods or pistons unless you're planning on over 12 psi. Why rebuild if it's brand new?

                  I have an M90.

Will this engine handle it under full load and full boost capacity at stock pulley size?

How much boost is that? We tried running a Gen II 3.1 with an M90 but never got past 4 psi because of belt slip

300 whp should be no problem for that engine.

I thought the 3800 ecm regulated the M90 boost with the electronic bleed solenoid?

I am planning on a cam and everything as well, so i figure i can get a good amount of boost with an idler pulley to help limit belt slip.

                        Aside from that,
Do you know where i can get an intake manifold to mount the supercharger to?
Someone said this web sight has someone who sells an intake that bolts to the front of the engine and i keep my stock intake and stock throttle body.

I like this idea better because i can run it through an intercooler.

Get a T-bird M90. They're remote mount and have a better pulley size

AFAIK the 3800 PCM does not regulate boost; it only bypasses the charger when under low throttle conditions to improve fuel economy

                              Ok.
Thats good to know that it didnt regulate the boost except at idle for economy.

I already bought the 3800 M90 a long time ago.
I dont really want to waste it since i already have it. but i will look into the T Bird M90.

I am still interested in a way to mount the M90 i have to my engine. I was told someone here sells the mounting/intake for it and it works with my engine.
I would like to buy it if i can. Any ideas where i can find it?
