  • eBay - Does this look suspicious?

I bid on an Opel header, listed at $10 and the auction has ended twice at $10 with no bids. It didn't look like anyone was watching it either.

I bid on it, $15 because that makes an even $50 with shipping. About 2hr later I was outbid, and this is what it looks like:

Does that look like an auto-bidder, or someone bidding up their own item? Bids came in some seconds apart in $1 increments until I'm outbid. I'm not a regular user of eBay, I don't know if this is a common practice. I just thought it looked a little suspicious...

That is the way the auto bidder works on your behalf.

If you are suspicious of them having someone jack the bid up check their history and see if they bid on the stuff by that seller on a regular basis.

I know that's how the system works, but I didn't think that's how it would be displayed. In all my recollection, if the other person bid say $20, it would go straight to $15.50. Also, the auction page shows 7 bids. Looks like the other person bid six individual times.

They would have bid $1 at a time to get it to display like that. Had they just thrown a $20 bill at it it would have jumped right to $15.50.

I'll let it sit until Friday - nearer to auction end. I emailed a guy I know that might have a set, I'd rather give him a fair price than screw around with a fishy auction.

I win. The Opel header is mine for $22+shipping.
