    presenting plug number 4

    and plug number 6

looks like I have a reason to start on the engine swap.

looks like I need to start digging up wiring diagrams...

That's almost as bad as the one in my Nova, you have more extra space though. I have the HEI on the one ignition output, tach, wideband and radio on the one accy lead.

I literaly just discovered the old GMC v-6's while surfing kijiji 2 weeks ago. I've seen the v-6 emblems on trucks but never looked into it before. Neat beasts. I actually posted about it in my new member thread.

I vote for 60 degree power, how about the big dog all 900lbs of 478 Magnum 6. 220 ish hp and 400 ft-lbs. Horrible on fuel but they sound nice. There are parts for this one as it is found in heavy equipment and larger trucks. Found some decent forums and parts listings while reading up on them. There is a nice 3/4 ton with a 478 swap on youtube, same body style as you. Nice truck BTW.

If your engine is NFGed there should be a shit ton of 235 I-6's that would swap in untill you get your swap ready. These things are very hard to kill, decent on fuel and cheap, unless you aim for the corvette version. Little less power but tough.

          NFGed?

the engine runs alright, but I know it's not going to last forever. I plan to do the atlas I6 swap because I feel like it'll be the most fun(experience)/$

aye aye aye... what I didn't take a picture of, was the 4ga wire running through the firewall to the amp under the seat. straight from the battery, no fuse, nothing to protect the wire from chaffing ect... it was kinda scary to see...

That and 95% of all other people would take the quick easy SBC route. This should be next to original.

as far as I am aware, no-one has done an atlas 4.2 into a 67-72 Chevy/GMC

I've decided I am going to fab up an oil pan myself, the pan rail is flat the whole way around, which should make the job fairly easy. I've also found a manual that has all the wiring diagrams, so that will make life easier.

starting to get a plan together...

I'm going to attempt to mount a envoy fuel sending unit in a 31 or 40 gal suburban gas tank under the bed for the fuel system, use a swap crossmember to mount the 4L65e, and the build engine mounts from there. because the 4200 is narrower then the old SBC, the plan is to make adapter mounts that go from the block to the SBC engine mounts on the frame.

Super accurate to scale model of what I mean by that:

instead of the engine mounts bolting directly to the block, they would bolt to extensions bolted to the block(green area)

the other major hurdle is the oil pan, like I said, I plan to make one myself, I'll either use a vortec 3500 (colorado/canyon I5) oil pump pickup, or fab something up. should be pretty easy.

I guess I should bring this thread up to speed.

                      rewind 2 weeks...

Drove home to Pensacola, hit 17.5 MPG through Georgia! average was about 15.5 for the trip though. over 600 miles, I ended up losing almost 7 quarts of oil though, so I decided it was in my best interest not to try and bring the car back to Goose Creek on a trailer... I would really like to see where all of the oil is going, I don't notice a cloud of smoke behind me driving down the road, nor do I notice significant puddles of oil on the ground after letting the truck idle. there's a mess under the hood though, so I feel like there's got to be a bad gasket somewhere, but there's nothing obvious, and 7 quarts should be very obvious...

it looks like I get another chance to run home here soon, so maybe this time I can get something done...

[car guys anonymous intro]Hello, my name is Eric, and I have a problem...[/car guys anonymous intro]

                        lol...

I bought a second 70 GMC, this one is a 3/4 ton though. It's got a strong running 400 SBC, 700r4, dana 60 (full floating!) power brakes, a/c, a nice bench seat, and lots of other shit I needed for my 1/2 ton. the body on this one is toast though, full of holes, beyond repair, so I decided to swap all the good body parts from the 1/2 ton to the 3/4 ton, including the whole cab.

I'll post more progress as I go.

also found this little gem on my dads farm, matches my truck's year, weight, and my county!

I'm in Georgia right now, trucks registered in Florida though. maybe the pictures will answer your other question...

where did I say that? just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't! the truck has a long list of mods coming it's way, most likely getting an 08-09 atlas, 4L70e, and a front axle...

                              Note the holes...

                              soldered them up.

and now it's paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand, paint and sand....

fuel line decided to spray fuel like a firehose... other one barely dripped...

lifted the 1/2 ton cab off...

rolled the 1/2 ton frame out and the 3/4 ton frame in...

                                Set the Cab down...

and this was how I left it...
