        I wish, it's got an LS9 instead.

so, I've been thinking about this old truck's mill, and I'm trying to decide what to do. there's always the LSx route, but that's kinda boring, then there's the 305 V6 route, which would be cool, but hard as hell to find parts for. I had another thought, that I might do, assuming I don't just leave it as is, and I thought about maybe swapping a Atlas(4200 I6) into it. thoughts?

the 4200 sounds like a chainsaw at WOT... lol

I'd do a bone stock 5.3 or 6.0 LS truck swap. Check out the one Powerblock did, went from a 454 to a 6.0 and it looks like tons of fun.

4200 with a turbo would make it a powerhouse. If you are staying NA, find a 5.3 and manual trans.

the truck is going to remain an automatic, I'm not a big fan of manual transmission trucks. the 5.3/6.0 is probably the most logical route, but I just don't like it that much, it's just too common.

My only Beef with the 4200 is the DBW throttle, I would want to keep VVT, but get rid of DBW, I just can't stand DBW throttles, and there's no ECM that I am aware of supporting that combo, so that means I either lock out the phaser and get a cable throttle, or I leave the phaser as is and deal with DBW...

When I said the LSX route was boring, I meant that it's been done over and over again, so there's nothing special about it, I'm sure they make good power.

I guess I should have stated too, that I'm not really going out to make this truck the fastest thing on 4 wheels, just a reliable DD.

as awesome as it would be to see the GMC V6 in there, i don't think you would ever pass ~12MPG.... and with not that great of power at the same time.

with a LS engine, awesome power, economy, parts everywhere....

I really want to do the Atlas, but the damn DBW throttle is the holdup... I wonder if the EGR output could be used to control VVT setups?

in an open loop fashion, yes.

getting it to work closed loop is the difficult portion.

This thread may give you some ideas...

Engine Swap - AutoRoc's Turbo Vortec 4200 I-6 Swap - It's a work in progress...:) Empty car awaiting to be a somewhat civilized warm weather driver again. Rough placement ideas for the PT70GTQ turbo and PT1000 A/W intercooler. I think I will sink the cooler flush into the firewall. And the turbo.. I'm not sure if u...

BTW, just because something is common on TV or the Internet doesn't mean it's common in real life.

there are kits available to do an LSx swap... that being said, it's too common for me!

Auto-roc's car is the shit!(I've posted in that thread!)
