  • FFP Chip+Emissions

Got chip from FFP designed for 180* stat, and EGR valve OFF. I decided I would get my car tested with it off and see what it does. And oh man, how I failed. The numbers are hard to see but they're there.

    First Run FFP chip

    Numbers
    Test 25/25
    ----------Tested/Allowed
    HC ppm 15/114
    CO % .01/.63
    NOx ppm 1057/796
    RPM 1688/2500
    CO+CO% 14.9/ 8min

    Test 50/15
    ----------Tested/Allowed
    HC ppm 16/117
    CO % .01/.65
    NOx ppm 1511/879
    RPM 1786/2500
    CO+CO% 14.9/ 6min

Second Run, immediately following the first I backed up installed the stock chip and went back at it. I may have failed because I didn't give the engine any learn time and the Cat had time too cool.

    Test 25/25
    ----------Tested/Allowed
    HC ppm 52/114
    CO % .04/.63
    NOx ppm 432/796
    RPM 1687/2500
    CO+CO% 15/ 8min

    Test 50/15
    ----------Tested/Allowed
    HC ppm 19/117
    CO % .01/.65
    NOx ppm 976/879
    RPM 1804/2500
    CO+CO% 15/ 6min

Third run stocker still in after 45 mins or driving.

Now this is interesting, same car, one year ealier, the only difference is I had stock chip and stat in. So really the only difference is stock stat. Don't know if the time the stocker was in would have changed anything.

    What would cause that change?

Interesting. I cant read the top numbers, so I assume it passed with the chip though in the end? Looks like our lovely EGR isn't too necessary.

ah ok, so it did fail for the NOx, which is EGR.

Yeah but like i said i would imagine my emissions tests are very hard. Maybe next to CA only.

I was just makign the point that mine did not pass with the chip, but I do nt think that it is directly related to the chip

I went by a tree, and the leaves didn't turn brown and fall off, so I passed emissions around here...

ROFL! yeah, thats indiana emissions testing for you:P Running too hot of a plug could be causing the issues though for NOx right? I need to find out what plugs would work in mine but be 1 stage colder just to try out.
