  • stereo wiring question

I'm not a music guy. But I have one I recently employed and I want your opinion.

I bought a cheap pioneer deck, amp, and 4 speakers for the wifes car for mom's day.

1 set of pre-outs on deck.

the amp is a 4-channel 400 watt with 2 rca inputs. and has 2 plugs for "highs" inputs that use the deck's normal speaker wires as input.

    Here's what I did.
I ran the 4 pair of speaker wires back to the amp and hooked them into the little plugs they supplied, then ran new speaker wire to each speaker off the 4-channels from the amp. Didn't use the rca jack at all.

Here's what my sound guy wanted me to do:
Run the speaker wires from the deck to the speakers.
Run the RCA to the amp from the deck.
Run addition speaker wires from the amp to the same speakers and hook into them with the deck speaker wires.

I don't know much about stereos. But this seems wrong to me as the speakers would be getting both deck amperage/music signal and the same from the amp right? Wouldn't this be like wiring two hots to the same lead? Would the amp even be putting out the right signal to the speakers this way?

A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

No no no. Although the way you did it may not be the best, it is much better than what he wants you to do.

personally, the route you took is a good one. RCA can be finicky at times, i get a random popping noise from my amp due to the jacks just momentarily losing connection, wouldn't happen with a securely connected high-level signal.

the one suggested.... bad idea. feeding something alternating current from 2 sources is a bad idea if there is even a remote possibility of them being out of phase.

i think you need to fire/retrain your audio guy.

I use the RCA jacks any time I can. Much cleaner signal that way . But yeah, don't hook two power sources to a speaker. I don't think it would hurt the speakers so much as it would probably ruin a least the new deck, possibly the amp too.
