  • Clogged Air filter study and MPGs etc.

    Kinda interesting for those interested.

Interesting read, looks like the conclusion is that a carburated engine will suffer in both power and mpg from a dirty air filter, but a modern fuel injected engine has sophisticated enough engine management to maintain the correct AFR with even a severely clogged air filter. In other words, no significant impact on MPG, though maximum power may be impacted.

Good to know! I was about to change the air filter on my truck because I get crap MPG and it doesn't look really dirty at all. I think they should do a study on o2 sensors now! That is one thing I did change on the truck and in one tank I went from 15mpg to 17.5 so I'm thinking they must have been lazy. They did have 80k on them but the design life is supposedly 100k.
