  • Power Door Lock Troubles

My Grand Prix is equipped with power door locks and factory keyless entry. The factory keyless entry 'brain' died many years ago and I replaced it with an aftermarket keyless entry unit. I wired that unit right in at the same spot as the factory unit since all the necessary wiring was accessible there.

The issue I have is that the door locks work great from inside the car when I press the button on the door sill. Lock and unlock everytime and the actuators sound powerful.

BUT, in the morning (when its cold/cool out) and I press the button on my keyless remote to unlock I can hear the door lock actuators try to do it but they don't have enough power and fail to open the door. I open the door with the key. What is weird is that immediately after I open the door with the key, if I press the lock/unlock button ON THE DOOR the locks work perfect and sound powerful.

In the afternoon once it has warmed up outside I can unlock the doors no problem with the remote.

So the issue is that, when its cold out, I can power unlock with the door button but using the remote doesn't seem to give have enough OOMPH behind it to do the job. I believe it uses a 2 second pulse when I use the remote - which is far longer than pressing the button on the door.

Does this sound like an electronics problem, whether it be the keyless entry unit or the actuators OR a hardware problem (binding locks/actuators etc) ?
