  • Finished my S10 project (no its not a V8) .....yet

Just throwing this out there for you bored folks. Started with a 96 2.2 crapmatic with a blown engine, like a hole in the block, and ended with a 4.3 stick shift. Bought it in the end of april after it sat over 2 years. It's my daily so I could park the beretta again. I just sold my old daily in feb/march.

Just starting out. You can see the 2.2 if you look close enough

The engine/trans is out but thats about it

    Swapping the dash harness out

    Swapping the engine harness out

Heres my custom electric fan mount. I used my leftover beretta fan from when I swapped the slim mount 96 fan in.

My dads arms and the 5-speed and related parts fresh from the junkyard! Glad I had him there to help! lol

    The 4.3L is in

Pulling a uhaul a week after it's first start up

I started right up on the first turn of the key. I also bent new brakelines for the fronthalf, new brakes hoses/pad/rotors etc.New battery and alternator. Tons of new gaskets and seals. New fuel lines the whole way. blah blah blah it was done right with the intention of serving me for many years reliably. Took me about 3 months start to finish. (Its not my garage and I work 50+ hrs a week easy, and the only help was my dad "hey can you hold this or pull this" type stuff). It was fun, maybe next time it'll be the mighty V8.

I started a similar project this winter. After doing an engine replacement in an Alero I started working on a pair of S10's. One was a 2.2 5 speed that someone had completely torn apart to do a V8 swap and lost interest/funding, and the other was a 4.3 auto with a hideous body smashed up front and rear.

I did half of the work getting ready to swap parts over and the Alero never sold so I lost interest in wasting my time working for free. Eventually I found out the Alero was sold some time ago but never got any payment. So as you can imagine I'm not going to finish the swap.

The interior harness is fun. That is the part I had gotten through when I found paying work and stopped the swap. Other than how some things snake around it's not too difficult. It was really nice having 2 trucks side by side to move things around and the extended cab to stuff all my tools in the back. If I had the chance to do another S10 swap I would probably try to stuff in an LY7. I'm already embroiled in a project on my car and finally got around to ripping out the old interior harness last week.

It has been pretty slow on the forums I frequent lately. That compounded with a 90 degree swap in a 60 degree world doesn't get a lot of interest here. I've done a few swaps and know lots of people who daily drive 90*'s but I'm a diehard 60* fan.

My 60degree swap was so long ago nobody even cares. I just sort of chime in once in awhile. Long time member of bstuff. I was like member 200 or 300 lol i dont even know what the final total of members was. I didnt have a donor vehicle for the s10 but I had one for my 5 speed swap on my 95 Z26. It was a 88 beretta. I got all the hardware for that swap for like $100. Total swap cost was like $500 or so with new bearings, clutch, seals, preventative stuff. I thought about putting the 3500 in the s10 only bc the trans would bolt up but I would have had way more work involved then just doing what I did. The interior harness was sorta tricky in the s10 bc I didnt have a donor but the only things that are wrong are; my speedo is off bc the rear gears are different (i think thats the problem, but the gears are def not anything that came in the 4.3) my fuel gauge reads "E" all the time and my headlight switch doesnt have the backlit illumination. I have a couple ideas what the problems are caused by but I havent found a good jy for parts where I moved to, I've only been here a month maybe. Both forums i frequent have been slow for some reason, maybe 60 isnt any better. I usually only come here for real technical "advice".

Is that like my 4t60-e to getrag 282 swap? I've done all the major "swaps" forced induction is the only hurdle I havent crossed and nitrous but I'm working on it....oh and rebuilding automatics (damn you jon lol, I'm jealous). Third time is the charm.

No, it isn't any better. We've been considerably slower in the past few months, even compared to similar time frame in previous years. On 1 forum I frequent (the one for this forum software, actually), site owners are blaming the decrease use of forums on Facebook, and how people would rather communicate on there than on forums like this.

It is a pretty nice swap, but yet again, its not 60V6 related, so people on here probably are going to be less inclined to talk about. Nature of this forum's niche...

I've got one of the Harbor Freight flux core boxes. I think I paid about $90 for it. It was on a good sale and slapped the 20% off coupon down, lol. It does decent for what it is, but I don't care for the lack of amperage adjustment (60 and 80 amps, that's it). It does decent for exhaust work, and I'm not going to complain about it because I walked out of the store with it for less than $110 and was welding in an hour.

I rebuilt a 2.2 in a 2k Sonoma a couple years ago. It spun #1 rod bearing. The guy still has it and drives it daily and still loves it. It's a nice little truck, but the clutch in it (replaced when engine was rebuilt) felt like a girly clutch and the gearing was really close I thought, almost too close.

I'm also here because I don't do Facebook. It never really appealed to me and I just don't see the hype about it. It looks more like a more mature myspace to me, and I didn't do myspace either, lol.

I built 3 or 4 turbo kits, repaired the ride on lawnmower (reason for purchase), several exhausts and tid bits around the CNC shop (fixtures etc) with that blue HF buzz box before it crapped the bed lol.

The new blue box is so much better, though, Syncrowave 300 isn't a toy. Have a 110v Craftsman for the small/remote stuff.

Last year I rebuilt the v10 in my Excursion without pulling the motor. The engine hoist from (yup HF) bent when I was trying to lift it to remove pan and check it out, so the block stayed in the truck haha.

And yeah, forum traffic is down everywhere...

V10 is just awesome, thats prolly why it bent the imported hoist lol not! V10's are sweet though, I wish GM woulda built one, even for a couple years. Everyone else built one.

                        I did a similar project. Back in late 2003 I went to a dealership and purchased a used 2002 4.3l S-10.

I still have the truck and I still like it, But I think it is time I put the metal LIM in it (similar to the 31/3400 revised Ver.) that I already ordered, but at the same time I want to install the revised spider fuel injector assembly that replaces the sometimes leaky ball valve? injectors, so I'm holding off until I can buy that too.
