  • Vats question???

ok guys, bear with me, I bought this 95 camaro, I was given 2 sets of keys, 1 key the resistance is reading 1046 or 1.46 the other key 1041 or 1.41. how can I know what resistance my vats system is. I know Im allowed 2 variance, but its way over that.

I think there is some confusion with the loss of a zero. 1046 ohms is 1.046K ohms. 1041 ohms is 1.041K ohms. Within a margin of error I would say both keys have the same resistance value.

I don't know much about VATS but there have been a number of threads here recently about it. I'm sure a search will help you get closer to solving your problem.

your right that would be 1460 and 1410, is that still in range?

As I said in the chat box, a set of resistors at the right value to equal the key chip value. Find the wire that runs from the key switch for the VATS hammers. Splice in the resistors between the two wires on the PCM side. You may even make a small module that can be unplugged. Simple radio shack circuit board and a solder pen will work well.

I was going to make a plug set up for my resistor combo. Unplugging it would render the car useless and no common thief will figure that out fast enough. Neat part is the car won't start with the proper key either. Great way to protect the car from teenagers or who ever. When they get your keys and try to start it, it won't.
