  • Panic In Detroit!

Fred is let loose! He got out of prison after 2.5 million years for killing Wilma and Dino. Raped Pebbles, and his rehab has failed....

Totally missed the banned guy destruction. I've been away.

If the cop figured his brakes were out, why didn't he pull in front of the guy and stop the truck for him instead of telling him to destroy his park awl?

Cause it wouldn't have been a very good video.

well i guess this is proof that this was not an emergency situation. or he woulda used the emergency brake???? put it in low gear, then shut off engine???? for gods sake, this wasnt a short time thing. i was even thinking of possibilities, while watchin. then again, i hadnt just smoked a bowl, drank a 40, and finished off my new scrip of oxycontin.

correct me if i'm wrong but throwing it into park does nothing until you hit something. i did this years ago with my beretta the battery died along with the car and i was coasting into a parking spot going slow enough not to damage anything so i threw it into park and it just clicked away until i bumped the curb.

why didn't this guy use the parking brake. assuming he blew a line regular brakes would be useless but the parking brake should still work. there is a lot of shallow edge of the gene pool thinking from both the guy in the truck and the cop. couldn't the cop use his car to slow down the truck.

It is true. Back when my 96GP had an automatic I was repairing the brake system. I needed to move the car up about 10 feet or so. Well, the brakes do more work holding back the car at idle then I thought. Shifted into reverse and ....zoom. I flew roughly 6 feet fast and I was stunned for a millisecond. Put it in Park and it just clicks away, did nothing to stop the car. Slammed the E-Brakes just a foot from the street.

There is a MythBusters out there somewhere that they prove this as well. Throw the car into park going 30-40mph to try to blow the tranny, and the car just keeps going. And this wasn't even a newer car with safety features.

Yeah, you have to be almost stopped for the park awl to engage. It works along the same lines as the steering lock for those that have had their columns apart.

As for the emergency/parking brake idea, my thoughts were coming from someone who, both their vehicles have nonfunctional emergency/parking brakes. I do have an advantage though, a manual and an engine makes a lot better brake downshifting than a foot out the door.

Actually I had the name wrong, it's park pawl, and shown around 1:15 on this video. Now you can see exactly why it doesn't engage while the vehicle is moving...

I think the auto was an old Grand Marquis boat and the stick was an old Civic.

Actually I think you are right, it was a Crown Vic, but I do remember it for sure was a full size RWD.

damn it now i'll have to go back and find that episode. anyone remember what year it was on tv in.

they use a lot of grand marquis and crown vic's on the show so it was either one. most of the stunts they do are with a RWD car unless it's a specific car stunt.
