very rare engine these days.
I personaly would pull the whole engine and go though it. your main problems are going to bad gas, seals and gaskets if if sat for along time. You may have some surface rust on the cylenders walls if it hasn't been crancked in a few mounths,but surface rust is nothing to worry about. This is the time to rering and put in new bearings. Mic everything first to make sure everything is within spec.
OR bring the engine to a machine shop and have it rebuilt. just make sure it's a good machine shop and they magnaflux the block an heads before they do any.thing
It'll be allot more cost effective than buying a new one, but if you have to a new GM sbc crate engine is a great value and it'll come with a better warrenty than a rebuilt engine.
