Debit/Credit cards, aren't they wonderful?

I like mine, until I get up this a.m. before work and find this charge on mine:

PM *ASIANPEOPLEM 06/24/11 69.93

Now, I'm not made of money, so I've only got a slim $40 cushion at the moment thanks to the past few weeks at work (3 day check, then a 2 day check, now 2 weeks off for the 4th...).

I've also never signed up at Asian People Meet before, but the user charge listed under my card on their site says:

EddieWerner June 23, 2011 $69.93

Meet Michael. EddieWerner is his username on Asian People Meet. He's from Houston Texas and has apparently used my debit card some how. I'm going to make Michaels life very interesting here as soon as I get his details from the site and file a credit card fraud case against him (and possibly identity theft). At least at the present time the system works out easy for me to do this since this is common place in this day and age.

What gets me is, I only use my card at reputable places online (amazon, paypal, ect) and locally it's always at the same gas stations/stores. I don't leave it out in plane sight, I don't read the numbers out loud. I'm very careful with my card, yet this still happens. Guard your cards, guys. This is very inconvenient for me with my $800 rent check still waiting to go through, along with this. If they both go through, I'm going to get hit with an overdraft fee thanks to this thieving moron wanting to get some Asian poon...

how did you get his password to get on the site ? did the credit card company get this info for you ? I hope it all works out for you !! Keep us informed about ole Michael LOL

Crazy stuff. Many years ago (8-9?), someone got into my PayPal account and drained my checking account completely. It was the worst feeling in the world, as I was in the same boat (if not worse) than you are. I had bills due, but no money to pay them, and there was nothing I could do. Obviously, I filed a claim with PayPal and eventually got the money back (minus fees and whatnot), but it took like a week or 2 to happen.

If you have electronic access to your account, I would check it daily for any other suspicious charge for the next few weeks. I have actually heard of people at restaurants copying down all the info on a card so they could use it online.

When I put in my debit card, his profile came up. I couldn't actually log into his account. They did refund my money and closed down "his" account. Now I need to get ahold of the police and give them the information from the site (they didn't send me his address, ect., but I need to give the police the companies address/phone number) to start charges.

That really sucks, Brad. I consider myself lucky he used my card and not my checking account info, so at least I can still pay bills online by way of e-check. I do still plan to watch my account though. The first thing I did when I got home was go to the bank and have my card cut off and get a new one issued, so at least he can't do any more damage. Now it's time to go after him...
