I think that and the problem of no intercooler, not properly tuning the ECM, which could be making it run lean (EI hotter burn in the cyl.), and heat soak probably have alot to do with it. Oh, and the suicide thing i mentioned earlier...

Why do you guys hate on the L67 so much? It's a DAMN good engine, and is set up well. The fires are usually caused by a fuel leak from a crappy o-ring on one of the lines in the engine compartment. I cant remember where exactly.

We've been over this too many times already. You guys are just setting yourselves up to get flamed. Let me sum up the reasons why people here don't like the L67's: the attitude that thier drives adopt, they need to be supercharged to make the power they do, the old school iron heads, the attitude that their drivers adopt, the fact that this is a 60 degree board and L67's are 90 degree engines........... did I mention the attitude thier drivers adopt???

But if you really need to know why it caught fire.... It's Because, Because, Because, BECAUSE!!!....Because of the wonderful things it does... "Burn, Burn , Burn....Burn your evil auto to the ground" ( sry, I got caught up in the moment )

you see the slate stone firewall, and the petrified wood are a lot more flame retardent than those GTP's. It's not jsut Gm's fault though. the guy was using it improperly. they can't catch on fire when they're at the bottom of the lake anchoring your boat liek they'r supposed to be!
That is hilarious!!! ( this fire thing is killin' me, musta been the 4th )

Sometimes the attitude LQ1 drivers adopt is crappier. I don't know anyone running a 10.5 quarter with an LQ1 (not in another car). And I don't give a shit what people say about aftermarket yatta yatta.

                    14secdreams, that pic is halarious

i have to offence to the burning of 90d engines. I have a 4.3 N/A and 5.1 N/A that run great and have never given me any trouble. On the outher hand I have had 4 60d engines that are always giving me problems(85s-10,89s-10,86sonoma,and a 97 lumina). They blow head gaskets or intake gasket just shy of 100k. That particular car was never recalled and it should have been. The cost a possible lawsuits was less that totale cost of recalling all the cars for faulty o-rings and/or quick-connects. If you have one change the o-rings in the fuel rails and injectors and keep an eye on the quick-connectes on the fuel lines
Raceing a ricer is like running in the specail olympics. Even if you win your still retraded.

What really happened was that he was doing a burnout. Since they were spinning so fast, in third gear of course, enough heat built up, combined with air, and it magically made the required chemical combustion and it erupted into flames. So it is jsut that the car can spin the tires too fast.
