  • 50 MPH Impact and Car is destroyed

So yesterday morning, precisely 4:00AM est, my brother wrecked his car and the impact was very bad. He hit a brick wall head on at about 50mph at impact. The impact was insanely strong.

First, the vehicle hit a curb that wasn't very high. But it was high enough to rip open the oil pan because oil was sprayed outward where the engine clipped the concrete curb. The engine was smashed into the fire wall. The front end was smashed up to the wheels and the wheels were further pushed back a few inches.

He had his seatbelt on and the airbag deployed properly. The police said if either failed he could have easily been dead on the spot.

The car hit the brick wall flat side, no angular impacting. His body suffered 58g's of deceleration. Meaning 9800 lbs of force was put on the seat belts and his own person. (160lbs * 5.

Moral of this true story, never under estimate alcohol. And NEVER drive drunk. He lost his car he worked so hard for. His little performance car is dead, totaled. And almost lost his own life. Still may have medical issues for the rest of his life if he truley has a Cerebral Contussion.

At least he's ok, it could have been MUCH worse.

Cars are replaceable, Brothers aren't. I lost mine about 10 years ago to a drunken driving accident (his fault). It sucks.

Man I feel for ya. I can't even imagine, my family is close. I helped him on that car so many times and hang out often.

For the first 10-20 minutes during the confusion I thought he was seriously injured, ICU kinda stuff. Because I didn't see him immediately after the wreck. But there was the car and the blood on the airbag. Along with the cop cars, fire trucks, ambulances. No one knew where he was since a cop took him to the hospital before the paramedics arrived. That "all to known" feeling of mortality was sinking in. Seeing my Mom, she let me know he was ok'ish. Banged up but will live.

Hopefully this close call is enough to prevent such a situation again. i think it scared the #$%^ out of him when he realized how easily he could be gone today. He is bummed out over the car but I told him he will always have the knowledge of what he learned and that he can walk away with. And the head gasket issue is no longer an issue, lol. Traces of coolant were detected in cylinder 3 & 4 and we really didn't look forward to such a teardown on a Mopar engine.

Atleast he recognizes his faults in the matter but there are others who allowed this to happen and they aren't going to like me pretty soon.....

Sorry for your loss, I can't imagine.
