  • Starting Problem. 3.4L V6 engine in trooper.

Hi I have a very annoying problem which nobody seems to be able to fix. I keep going through starters on this newly put back together engine. At first the starter didn't seem to have enough power to crank the engine. After 2 replaced starters, I finally found my engine to battery ground cable not connected. AFter reconnection the starter seemed to have no problem spinning. Now I have a new problem. Sometimes the starter will spin the enigne correctly but other times it will either stick, then break. Or the wierdest and most common problem is it will just spin, like it slipped off the flywheel. Now I know everybody will think its the solinoid, but it seems to catch again if rock the car back and forth in geer. Even after I fixed the ground cable the starters seem to die after maybe 20 start attempts. I do not crank the starter for more then 20 seconds. The battery is well charged. The relay is working. The power cable has been replaced. I've tried many variations on shims, from 2 shims to no shims. Seems to work best with no shims. I just broke my 5th starter today, I took it out and connected it up using jumper cables and it wont even spin or click out or nothing, Totally dead. PLEASE HELP!!!! ANY IDEAS WORTH A TRY!!

I've got an extra flywheel and TC for a 3.4L if you need 'em.

Well I need a neutral balanced flywheel from a 2.8L actually. I'm not sure how simular they are but the one that I am supposed to use is off a 2.8L s-10 from a 1990 version. I belive the year range is 1988-1993 or somehting but I know for sure the 1990 is correct. Let me know if you got one that size thanx!
