  • Help me with buying some porting tools!

I need to pick up some cartridge rolls and was just going to get a whole set. What size mandrel should I look for? The Standard Abrasives set comes with something like 2 3/4" mandrels. I just worry that these won't be able to get far enough into the port. Should I look for at least a 4"? Any opinions?

What grinder are you using? Mine uses a 1/4" shank. If its the same, go to eastwoodco.com for some mandrels, and goodson.com has crossbuffs and sandpaper rolls for the best price I could find.

I have some other stuff eyed up, but I need to know how long I should go on the mandrel. Does the 2 3/4" reach or do I need the 4"?

BTW, I'm using a regular air die grinder with a 1/4" shank.

i have a MAC tools Die grinder part number AG70 that has a 2 inch long shaft on it. helps get into the ports nice and easy

i use the SA delux porting kits as well.
and then i have my bad boy tool i had made up for plenums... its a 9inch long shank 5/16ths shaft for strength, and the end milled down to 1/4 inch for the die grinder with the same SA porting tool cartrige roll end on it for the rolls.

gets into plenums nicely. it was a one off custom made piece i had done up. only cost me a bit of liquid payment
