  • Well I ALMOST entered the dark side

I went today and test drove a Thunderbird Supercoupe with my dad.

That car is fucking weird. The shifter(It was a 5-speed), was all messed up. 3rd and 4th didn't align, you had to move it over to get it into 4th. It was really hard to get in gears, like it hung up. The tach jumped around kinda, like it shook as it climbed. The redline was at 5 or 6, I couldn't tell. At 5 it went to red slashes, and at 6 it like ended. SO I drove it until it stopped making power, 5400. I wasn't planning on getting it so I decided to trash it a little. The factory ratings are 200-235hp, and 315tq

The power was also weird. For 315 it wasn;t all that strong down low. Until you really hit it, it really was kinda slow. But then the bypass valve closed and 12psi of boost came on, then it moved But even down low with boost it wasn't that strong, power didn't come on until 3, but it pulled nicely to 5400, where the rev limiter cut me off.

All in all it would be a fun car, but it wasn't all I was hoping for. I decided I liked the Lumina better. And also, my Lumina would have owned it. And I'm fairly confident stock for stock I would have too. It'd be close though. Factory 1/4mi is 15.4 btw.

15.4 Is stock for a Supercoupe? Wow thats a let down. I always thought they could pull off 14's.

Yeah I thought so too, I kinda find that hard to believe.

They probably hit 14s stock when they were new, ive been in a few in great shape. The real issue is their weight, about 4000 pounds! RWD would be nice but god damn is that a heavy piggy.

The steering was really responsive, like slightyl turning it and you're doing a U turn. But it was also really lgiht, like maybe too much power assist.

I just found the first stat I could, and ti said 15.4. And honestly that felt right.

The RWD would have been nice, but it only had limeted slip, and GOD with 195s all those tires did was spin! I just drove ti liek I do mine off the line normal and I left 15ft of rubber!

Factory size for the Supercoupe was 225/60/16...sounds like someone switched out the wheels and tires.

Wheels were stock Thunderbird, but maybe not SC. They did look really small on the car though. So yah the tires were changed then, cuz I read them and was like wtf? 195s to handle 315ft lbs and a 5-speed???
