  • I had a good scare today

So I was doing some last minute items on my newly built turbo. Air filter, securing a few vac hoses, wiping off some greases around the bay, ect.

Changed the oil, changes the coolant, checked the fluid levels, blah blah blah.

Started her up with HP scanner, all was great. AFR steady at 14.3-14.5, sounds nice, feeling good.

Then after about 10 minutes of idle I did the CASE relearn again cause the first time I didn't hit the rev limit since it was so high. I set the rev limit back to 4k for this relearn.

As I rev'ed up to 4k smoke started to pour from the engine bay. I quickly shut off the car and jumped out to look and thought, OMG!!!! I looked under the car and saw a waterfall of fluid. Again, OMG!!!!

All the time and money just flashed before my eyes. I sat there and smoked a cigarette wondering wtf just happened. I was terrified at a crack or something really bad.

After the smoke settled, I looked around and tried to find the problem. After a few minutes I saw the culprit. AH HAAAH, I managed to forget to clamp the coolant feed line to the heater core running into the firewall. The hose had popped off. It was dumping coolant wide open down the back of the engine block.

Well, I took a breath of fresh air and felt deep relief.

I let the engine bay dry off, filled up the coolant, again, and everything is running fine.

I will be tuning the car now. Hopefully I have no other issues like that again.

But phew, LMFAO. What a moment, I had to share it with all of you.

        Mild stroke, probably, lol.

I just drove it around the block a few times with scanner logging. Filled up the tank with 93 and came home to view the log results. Wasn't the LTFT log, just something to look at and make sure other systems are operating properly. Though, I had PE disabled and kept a very easy foot. I just wanted to shake a few things up to make sure there were no other issues.

I left the crank case to vent to atmosphere atm. It is burning off the moisture from the months of sitting.

Oil temp stayed steady at 195, coolant stayed lower then 180, I think my thermostat is blown. But I don't know why. It only had a few weeks of driving before it slept in the garage.

Also, I could here the air shuttering back into the compressor. The BOV needs adjusted.

But the heater works, lol, as cold as it is here it was a nice break from freezing my @$$ off.

Oh and I have a pin hole exhaust leak just before the 'cat'. That I will weld up tomorrow.

For a brief moment it went lean, 17.5 AFR. Is this normal for an untuned car?
